A previously rumored welterweight bout was confirmed by UFC officials on Wednesday night for the upcoming UFC Fight Night 25 event, pitting TUF 13 competitor Justin ‘Fast Eddy’ Edwards (6-1) against promotion newcomer Wand Fight Team product, Jorge ‘Lil’ Monster’ Lopez (11-1).
UFC Fight Night: Shields vs. Ellenberger (aka UFC Fight Night 25 and UFC: Battle on the Bayou) is scheduled to take place on September 17 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Lopez vs. Edwards bout will take place on the preliminary card of the event.
Lopez has won ten straight, winning his last match on August 5 at the Tachi Palace Fights 10 event, finishing his opponent by TKO in the second round. That was ‘Lil’ Monster’s’ second straight appearance with the TPF promotion, earning a unanimous decision in May over Waachiim Spiritwolf. Lopez is also a highly touted member of the Wand Fight Team.
Edwards made his UFC debut in June at the TUF 13 Finale. He would lose that fight, the first loss of his pro-career, to Clay Harvison via split decision on the preliminary card of the Spike televised event. Previous to that fight he carried a six fight pro-undefeated streak, all first round stoppages, with five of those wins coming via submission.
