TUF 12 champ Jonathan Brookins will take on submission specialist Charles Oliveira. Brookins looked as good as ever in his last outing, as he knocked out his opponent in the first round. And in Olivera’s recent featherweight debut, he took only a few seconds longer to dispatch his opponent to earn a stunning submission win via the rarely-seen calf-crusher.
That announcement was made Friday night (April 5, 2012) at UFC.com, noting that verbal agreements were in place between the two fighters for this seasons reality series final.
The TUF 15 Finale is expected to take place on June 1, 2012 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. The featherweight bout between Brookins and Oliveira is certain to take place on the televised main card on FX.
Brookins (13-4) is the season twelve winner of the TUF series and is 1-1 in his last two, but is 5-1 in his last six pro-matches. Brookins earned a win in his last bout in February, stopping Vagner Rocha by knockout at UFC on FUEL TV 1. It was Brookins second match at featherweight in the Octagon, having lost a decision to Erik Koch at UFN 25 in his 145-lbs Octagon debut.
Oliveira (15-2, 1NC) is also looking for success at 145-lbs, having won his first bout at featherweight by submitting Eric Wisely at UFC on FOX 2 in January. The win was ‘Do Bronx’s’ first victory in four tries, having gone 0-2 1NC previously. Oliveira’s last loss was at lightweight versus Donald Cerrone at UFC on Versus 5, with Cerrone winning by first round TKO.
