Chael Sonnen took to social media about his Bellator heavyweight grand prix semi-final opponent in Fedor Emelianenko.
Fedor Emelianenko showed flashes of his old self on Saturday night, surviving an early knockdown to score a vintage comeback performance that he’s been known for during his days in PRIDE. Moments after knocking out Frank Mir and advancing to the semi-finals of their heavyweight grand prix, Bellator officials let his next opponent in Chael Sonnen enter the cage.
The former UFC star wasted no time cutting a promo, which unfortunately was mostly ignored by the Russian fighter.
“The only thing I hate more than being right here in Chicago, is being in this ring with you,” Sonnen said. “I assure you the next time I am, it will not be for long.”
The two fighters then faced off for the first time, and it didn’t take very long after that before Sonnen decided to tweet about it.

According to Scott Coker, he expects Fedor vs Sonnen to be a “historic moment for the company.” While a date and a venue have yet to be finalized, the Bellator President says they plan to host it “somewhere on the East Coast.”
The last opening-round match up for this Bellator tournament happens this May, with King Mo taking on Ryan Bader.
