Ultimate Fighting Championship officials added two bouts to the promotions upcoming UFC 139 event set for November 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
A pair of bantamweight bouts were announced Tuesday, with former WEC champ Miguel Torres (38-4) taking on Nick Pace (6-2), and Michael ‘Mayday’ McDonald (13-1) meeting Brazilian Johnny Eduardo (25-9).
UFC 139: Shogun vs. Hendo is headlined by a light heavyweight bout between former UFC champ Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and returning fighter, Strikeforce title holder Dan Henderson.
Torres lost his last fight, a unanimous decision to Demetrious Johnson in May at UFC 130, ending a two fight win streak and putting his UFC record at 1-1. The former WEC champ debuted with the UFC in February, earning a decision victory over Antonio Banuelos at UFC 126.
Pace was in action last month, losing a unanimous decision to Ivan Menjivar in a 138 lb catchweight bout at UFC 133. Menjivar came in overweight, so Pace fought for a second straight time at 138 lbs. The previous fight saw Pace debut with the UFC at the TUF 13 Finale against Will Campuzano. Pace weighed in at 138 lbs, with both agreeing to the new catchweight. He would go on to win a third round submission.
McDonald has earned six straight wins, two of which took place in the Octagon. ‘Mayday’ earned a split decision over Chris Cariaso at UFC 130 in May and a unanimous decision voer Edwin Figueroa in his promotional debut at UFN 25 in March. The bout with Figueroa also earned both men the “Fight of the Night” bonus.
Eduardo debuted with the top promotion in his homeland of Brazil last month at UFC 134. There he saw an eleven-fight win streak end as he lost a unanimous decision to Raphael Assuncao. So far Eduardo has earned six wins by (T)KO, thirteen by submission, and six by decision.
