UFC welterweight Thiago Alves came in 1.5 lbs overweight and will be forced to give up 20 percent of his earnings to his opponent Jon Fitch. Seems like Alves has had considerable problems with weight, solidifying complaints that perhaps he should fight at a higher weight class, or walk around at a lower weight.

As always the Ultimate Fighting Championship will be streaming live for today’s “UFC 117: Silva vs. Sonnen” weigh-ins at UFC.com/live beginning at 7 PM EST (4 PM PST).
The weigh-ins are taking place at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., the same venue for Saturday’s event.
UFC 117 features a main event middleweight title bout between champion Anderson Silva vs. top contender Chael Sonnen. The co-main event sees welterweights Thiago Alves facing Jon Fitch in a rematch, the winner will go on and get a shot at the welterweight title.
