Despite losing during last nights television broadcasted UFC 127 prelim match to Alexander Gustafsson, New Zeland light heavyweight James Te-Huna earned his “win bonus” for the fight.
Te-Huna looked great in the opening few minutes against Gustafsson but appeared to tire at the end of the round. Gustafsson would take control of the fight and would take Te-Huna’s back using a rear-naked choke to force the tap at 4:27 of the first round.
Before the fight Te-Huna had made it known that he was donating his fight purse to the Christchurch earthquake victims in New Zealand. At the post fight press conference, UFC Managing Director of International Development, Marshall Zelaznik announced that the promotion would be matching Te-Huna’s donation.
Now it appears that Te-Huna’s donation also includes his win bonus as UFC President Dana White made the announcement via Twitter (@danawhite) during last nights event.
@GrabakaHitman sent this message to White “@danawhite Riki Fukuda deserves his win money” who responded “@GrabakaHitman he’s gettin it.”
This is great to see the UFC helping out even more as the promotion is already providing disaster relief donations for the flooded Queensland area in Australia with their UFC.TheGivingBridge.com auction site. The UFC is auctioning off fighter gear from last nights event to raise money for flood relief to the stricken area.
