This upcoming Saturday, UFC light heavyweight Jason “The Hitman” Brilz (18-3-1) is prepared to lay it all on the line when he steps into the octagon at UFC 129.
Brilz is set to meet Vladimir Matyushenko on the pay-per-view card of the first ever Toronto event, and is excited to fight in front of 55,000 fans at the Rogers Centre.
“The Hitman’s” UFC career may be in jeopardy having lost to Antônio Rogério Nogueira at UFC 114 in his last fight, so a loss to Matyushenko could send him packing. Brilz, who is 1-2 in his last three fights, feels that if he is cut, it won’t be cut because he “didn’t perform” in the octagon.
“Initially, I was supposed to fight Vladdy in November, but I tweaked my back,” said Brilz. “I had to cancel the fight, which really bummed me. I was really looking forward to going to Germany and fighting Vladdy. In the end I guess it worked out. I now end up going up to Canada and fighting in front of the largest crowd in UFC history, so it’s worked out well…”
“I’m going to go out there and put on the best performance I have: win, lose or draw. If they have to cut me, they’ll have to cut me because I lose, not because I didn’t try to have a fight or didn’t perform. I’m not going to say winning’s not important, because of course it’s important. It allows me to continue to fight, but me throwing it all out there instead of trying to out-point the guy (is my goal).”
