An upcoming trilogy fight between UFC lightweight champ Frankie “The Answer” Edgar (13-1-1) and challenger Gray “The Bully” Maynard (10-0-1, 1NC) has been pulled from the upcoming UFC 130 card.
Both men had been scheduled to headline the upcoming May 28 event in Las Vegas in a back-to-back title rematch but UFC President Dana White told MMAFighting.com that both fighters are injured and unable to compete. According to the website, Edgar is out with broken ribs, while Maynard is out with an injured knee.
UFC 130 is scheduled to take place on May 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s likely that the co-main event, a light heavyweight bout between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Matt Hamill, will step up to main event status, while a heavyweight match featuring Frank Mir vs. Roy “Big Country” Nelson will be billed as the co-main event.
Both Edgar and Maynard faced off on January 1 of this year in the headliner for UFC 125, with both fighters battling to a (46-48, 48-46, 47-47) split draw. Maynard won their very first meeting back in April 2008, earning a unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 13.
