Another exciting lightweight matchup was announced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on Monday for the promotions upcoming UFC 132 event, the match features a bout between Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (27-8-2, 1NC) and Shane Roller (10-3).
UFC President Dana White commented on the bout stating “Both of these guys are coming off of Knockout of the Night winning performances.”
This is the first that has surfaced for the UFC 132 event, which has not been officially announced, but is expected to take place on July 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As White noted, Guillard did earn the “Knockout of the Night” bonus after he stopped Evan Dunham by TKO (knees) in January as part of the UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 event in Fort Hood, Texas. It was “The Young Assassin’s” fourth straight victory and his seventh in eight bouts. Before stopping Dunham, Guillard earned a split decision against Jeremy Stephens at UFC 119, a knockout win over Waylon Lowe at UFC 114, and won a unanimous decision against Ronnys Torres at UFC 109.
Roller fought earlier this month as part of the UFC on Versus 3 show, earning a second round knockout of Thiago Tavares to win his UFC debut and the “Knockout of the Night” bonus. That win puts him at 5-1 in his last six fights, earning two straight which includes a submission victory against Jamie Varner at the very last WEC event in December. Roller has won two other “Fight Night” bonuses, earning “Submission of he Night” against Varner and the other back in November 2009 at WEC 44 against Danny Castillo.
