Almost missed this one from Thursday.
UFC bantamweights Norifumi “KID” Yamamoto (18-4, 1NC) and Damacio Page (12-6) have both pulled up injured forcing the UFC officials to cancel their upcoming UFC 135 bout.
News of the cancellation was first posted by MMAjunkie.com on Thursday morning.
MMAWeekly.com revealed the nature of Page’s injury, noting the bantamweight fighter suffered a neck injury while training and was forced to undergo surgery to repair the damage. No timeline was offered for Page’s recovery.
UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage is scheduled to take place on September 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
Yamamoto’s record recently is in a bit of a slump in the past few years, going 1-3 in his last four fights. His popularity was certainly helpful in the UFC signing him after a knockout victory in May of last year at a Dream.14 event. ‘Kid’ would debut at UFC 126 last February, losing a unanimous decision to current No. 1 bantamweight contender Demetrious Johnson.
Page’s record recently isn’t so bright either, having dropped his last two fights via submission. Page debuted with the UFC in March at the Versus 4 show, and was forced to tap in the first round by former WEC champ Brian Bowles. The loss before that was to Demetrious Johnson at last Novembers WEC 52 show, which also came via guillotine choke.
