Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced a lightweight bout addition to the coming new year’s UFC 142 event, as Canadian fighter Sam ‘Hands of Stone’ Stout (17-6-1) meets Thiago Tavares (16-4-1) in his homeland of Brazil in January.

The promotion made the bout official on Tuesday.

UFC 142 is expected to take place on January 14th of next year, and will likely return to the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, where the UFC held their very successful UFC 134 event last summer.

Stout is riding a two fight win streak, with a 4-1 record over his last five, which includes four “Fight Night” bonuses to his name. His last win was this past June at UFC 131, where he stopped Yves Edwards cold with a devastating first round knockout. ‘Hands of Stone’ received the “Knockout of the Night” bonus for the victory.

Tavares is 1-1 in his last two, and is 3-1-1 in his last five Octagon matches. The Brazilian will make his second straight appearance in front of his fellow countrymen having had his last fight in August at the UFC 134 event. There he stopped Spencer Fisher in the second round to earn a TKO victory, erasing a loss to his record after Shane Roller knocked him out at the UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann event.
