First it was Erik Koch (13-1) who had to bow out due to injury, and now replacement fighter Ricardo Lamas (11-2) too has fallen to the injury bug. This now leaves UFC featherweight Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier (11-1) without an opponent for February’s UFC 143 event.
UFC officials announced the injury to Lamas earlier on Tuesday at UFC.com.
…featherweight Dustin Poirier has lost his second opponent, as Ricardo Lamas has been injured. Lamas was only recently announced as the replacement for Poirier’s original opponent, Erik Koch, who was also hurt. A replacement is expected to be named shortly.
UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit is scheduled to take place on February 4, 2012 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Poirier has won four straight including all three of his Octagon appearances, which most recently includes a submission win against Pablo Garza last November at the UFC on FOX 1 event. ‘The Diamond’s’ other two victories in the UFC include decision wins against Jason Young at UFC 131 and Josh Grispi at UFC 125. Poirier dropped to featherweight for his UFC debut after fighting as a lightweight in the WEC.
