A featherweight fight for this July’s upcoming UFC 149 event appears all but set as George Roop (12-9-1) gets set to meet Antonio ‘Pato’ Carvalho (18-5) at the upcoming Canadian show.
News of the matchup was confirmed by ‘Showdown’ Joe Ferraro on Tuesday.
UFC 149 is expected to take place on July 21, 2012 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. A bout between Roop and Carvalho is certain to appear on the undercard of the pay-per-view event.
Roop will need a win if he hopes to keep his job with the UFC having lost his previous two matches and a record of 1-3 over his last four. He fought last January in Chicago, losing via second round TKO to Cub Swanson at the UFC on FOX 2 show. Before that, he lost a split decision versus a very Japanese fighter Hatsu Hioki at UFC 137, and won his last match at the TUF 13 Finale by KOing Josh Grispin in the third round.
Carvalho will fight in front of his fellow Canadians and will look for his first win the Octagon, having lost his debut in Brazil last January to Felipe Arantes via decision at UFC 142. The loss ended a three fight win streak fought for various Canadian promotions in 2011 and 2010. Other notable opponents include Hioko, Takeshi Inoue, and Jeff Curran.
