A lightweight matchup was announced by Ultimate Fighting Championship officials earlier today (April 5, 2012) for the upcoming UFC 149 event pitting Canadian fighter Mitch ‘Danger Zone’ Clarke (9-1) against Finland’s Anton Kuivanen (16-5).
The announcement was made at UFC.com, with a note that UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo would be defending his title against an unnamed opponent.
Two returning lightweights, Finland’s Anton Kuivanen and Canada’s Mitch Clarke, will look to earn their first Octagon wins and stake out their spot in the division.
UFC 149 is expected to take place on July 21, 2012 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Clarke debuted with the UFC this past December, suffering his first pro-loss at UFC 140 via second round TKO to John Cholish. Previous to that, Clarke won nine straight with local Canadian promotions earning one victory via (T)KO, six by submission and one by decision.
Kuivanen also debuted with the UFC in his last match coming out on the losing end of that fight to Justin Salas at the UFC on FUEL TV 1 event via unanimous decision. The loss was the Finish fighters first after nine straight victories with local promotions across Finland.
