Light heavyweights Glover Teixeira and Fabio Maldonado were among five main card fighters to receive 180-day medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC 153.

Teixeira will require a negative x-ray of his right hand and right elbow before returning to training, while Maldonado may only return early with neurological approval following a bloody and brutal two-round fight that was eventually, mercifully stopped by cageside doctors.

Undercard fighters Sergio Moraes, Chris Camozzi and Luiz Cane also received 180-day suspensions, according to information released to the Association of Boxing Commissions. Due to a lack of a sanctioning body in Brazil, the UFC handled the issuing of medical suspensions internally for UFC 153.

Eight additional fighters received minor suspensions, including light heavyweight headliner Stephan Bonnar, who will be sidelined 45 days, with no contact permitted for 30 days. Bonnar lost to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva via a spectacular first-round knockout in the night’s main event.
