It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen Georges St-Pierre set foot inside the Octagon. The UFC welterweight champion last fought in April 2011, when he defeated Jake Shields via unanimous decision. St-Pierre’s opponent in Saturday’s UFC 154 main event, Carlos Condit, reaped the rewards of St-Pierre’s absence, picking up the interim welterweight crown while St-Pierre rehabbed from knee surgery.
When the two meet at the Bell Centre in Montreal, it will be to unify those two titles and make everything right with the world. All right, maybe not the world, but at least things will be right within the UFC’s welterweight division. Can’t we just be happy for small victories?
In the evening’s co-main event, Martin Kampmann will face Johny Hendricks in a fight that may determine who the winner of the main event faces next. On the other hand, the winner of the Kampmann versus Hendricks bout may not fight for the title in their next contest. No one seems too sure how things will shake out at this point.
UFC 154 will feature a total of 13 fights. The 26 fighters will take to the scales on Friday afternoon from the New City Gas nightclub at 4 p.m. ET. Bleacher Report will be on hand to provide updates as the fighters step on the scale. Please make sure to check back for full results as they occur.
