UFC 183 medical suspensions: Miesha Tate, Tyron Woodley potentially out six months

Five fighters received six-month medical suspensions as a result of damage incurred during their respective fights at UFC 183, including top contenders Miesha Tate and Tyron Woodley, according to information released to MMAFighting.com by the Nevada Athletic Commission on Tuesday.

Both Tate (left orbital fracture, left elbow) and Woodley (right foot), along with main card fighter Tim Boetsch (right knee, right eye), exiled flyweight contender John Lineker (right foot), and prelim middleweight Tom Watson (right foot) will require clearance from doctors for their potential injuries, or otherwise be forced to sit out until the end of July.

A former Strikeforce champion who defeated Sara McMann via unanimous decision on Saturday night’s UFC 183 prelims, Tate revealed at the event’s post-fight press conference that she sustained a broken orbital bone in two spots on the left side of her face after eating a heavy punch from McMann midway through the bout’s first round.

Woodley, likewise, Tuesday posted a photo on Twitter of his x-rays, which clearly show the broken right foot he sustained during the opening round of his welterweight fight against Kelvin Gastelum.
