UFC 224 is almost here, and as usual, Embedded is here as well. The show that gives you an inside look at the marquee contestants on PPVs has issued the seventh and final episode for this weekend’s big show in Brazil, and it serves as a brief introduction to the fighters at the top of the card.
Lyoto Machida is cutting weight in the sauna. Both his brother and father are there, and talk about what it takes to win. Back at the hotel for the weigh-ins, Machida hits 186 on the mark. Vitor Belfort is 184. Everyone else makes weight with no issues – until Mackenzie Dern comes out. She’s 123, a whopping seven pounds over the strawweight limit.
Cooper’s coach is pissed, and rightfully so. Dern says she did try to make the weight, but now she’s just going to concentrate on the fight. Cooper bought a bunch of Brazilian cookies to leave outside Dern’s hotel room. Didn’t she say she was going to do that before the weigh-in?
Amanda Nunes gets her lioness headgear ready for the ceremonial weigh-ins. Ronaldo Souza is singing and taking pictures with fans. He runs into Bruce Buffer in the hotel lobby.
Ceremonial weigh-in time. Cooper mocks Dern as she gets on the fake scale. Dern goes for the handshake and Cooper rebuffs her again. Kelvin Gastelum questions why she would ever go for the handshake in the first place. Everyone else does their thing with no drama.
