Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is bringing mixed martial arts (MMA) fans one of its most stacked fight cards of the year in the form of UFC 245, featuring a championship triple header available only by way of ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) TONIGHT (Sat., Dec. 14, 2019) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Leading the charge will be the 170-pound grudge match pitting reigning welterweight kingpin, Kamaru Usman, opposite bitter rival and division No. 1 contender, Colby Covington. Before they collide in the UFC 245 main event, featherweight deity Max Holloway puts his belt up for grabs against the streaking Alexander Volkanovski in the five-round co-headliner. In addition, Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie will run it back with “Lioness” putting her 135-pound title on the line. Still not enough? Ex-featherweight champion Jose Aldo makes his bantamweight debut opposite division standout Marlon Moraes, while longtime 135-pound veteran and former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) featherweight champion Urijah Faber continues his comeback tour opposite the rough-and-tumble Petr Yan. 135 lbs.: UFC Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes vs. Germaine de Randamie

Round 1: Both sending out early low kicks. Overhand right knocks de Randamie back. Low kick exchange. Nunes catches a body kick, can’t land the counter. One minute in. Glancing overhand from Nunes and she changes levels for a double-leg into guard. Right hands from Nunes. de Randamie scrambles up directly into a guillotine, but pops her head out and lands a right hand. Knees from de Randamie two minutes in. Outside reap gets Nunes back on top and she drops some nasty punches. She threatens an americana for a second. Two minutes to go.

Nunes postures up for some big punches. She stands above de Randamie, kicks her legs and then goes back to punching. Nunes bombing away as de Randamie covers up. Side control for Nunes and she wraps up an arm triangle. It’s not there, so she abandons it for more strikes. Upkick from de Randamie. 10-8 Nunes.

Round 2: de Randamie tries a head kick and overhand right. Low kicks from Nunes. de Randamie counters one with a good right hand. Nunes tries a body kick. Hard rights from the challenger. One minute in. Well-timed double-leg from Nunes and she’ s back on top in guard. de Randamie just holding on and her inaction gets the ref to stand them up. Two minutes in. de Randamie comes back with a big head kick. Right hand and some brutal knees from de Randamie. Two minutes in.

Another big knee by the challenger. Short right hands in the clinch. Nunes changes levels and scores another takedown into guard. One minute to go. de Randamie threatens a triangle, eats a right hand. Nunes stands over her, tries to dive in with more shots. 10-9 de Randamie.

Round 3: de Randamie stalking forward, lands a counter right, gets taken down into half guard against the fence. One minute in. Nunes pins down an arm with her shin, loses it, lands an elbow. Two minutes in. Elbows and punches from the champ. More good elbows. de Randamie trying to punch from her back with two minutes to go.

More elbows. Big upkick by de Randamie but Nunes uses it to take side control with a minute to go. More elbows from Nunes. de Randamie scrambles to her knees and puts her on the fence. 10-9 Nunes.

Round 4: Low kick exchange to start. de Randamie loads up on her right hand. Nunes again ducks a punch and takes her down, taking half guard. Elbows and punches from the champ. One minute in. Patient work from the top. Two minutes in. de Randamie suddenly locks up a triangle choke, forcing Nunes to surrender top position. Nunes escapes, changes levels, hauls her to the mat again. 135 lbs.: Jose Aldo vs. Marlon Moraes

Round 1: Moraes clips Aldo with a head kick in the opening seconds, wobbling him. Another head kick and left hand. Aldo seems to have his wits about him and things slow down. One minute in. Aldo cracks him with a nice counter right. Lead left from Moraes. Moraes circling, Aldo slowly advancing. Two minutes in. He checks a leg kick. 2-3 connects for Moraes. 2-3 again from the opposite stance. Nice left hook. Wheel kick just misses, right hand does not. Two minutes to go.

Double jab from Moraes. Low kick and straight left. One minute to go. Lead right lands for Aldo. Right hand downstairs. Good right hand stings Moraes and Aldo looks to open up, only to get knocked back by a two-piece. Aldo lands a good right, so Moraes ties up and spins him to the mat into half guard. 10-9 Moraes.

Round 2: Trading jabs early. Right hand from Moraes to counter a low kick. Aldo still advancing a minute in. Moraes jabs, then rips the body. Head kick blocked. Aldo jabs the body. Nice body shots from him, left uppercut as they exchange. Trading jabs two minutes in. Cross counter from Aldo and another right behind it. Heavy exchange. Two minutes to go.

Yan whiffs with a couple of lefts. Glancing head kick connects. Teep from Faber. 2-1 connects. Two-piece lands for Yan. Faber slips trying to throw a kick. Two minutes to go.

Faber catches a body kick, can’t use it, eats a right on the break. He exits the next clinch with a left. Yan whiffs on an uppercut. Left uppercut lands for him, then a hard right hand inside. Counter lefts met by a Faber hook. One minute to go. Yan denies another takedown. Faber ties up, eats a knee and left hand. Low kick lands for him. Left hook. Good knee form Yan. 10-9 Yan.

Round 2: Faber steps in with a right hook. Knee just misses. Yan still pressuring. Low kick from Faber. Yan eats a left hook after missing an uppercut. One minute in. Faber right hand, Yan combination. They slug it out inside and Faber grabs double unders. He looks for the neck before separating. Straight right connects. Yan stuffs another takedown and cracks him with an elbow. Left hook exchange. Two minutes in. Faber ducks a left hook for a single-leg, Yan limp-legs out. Huge right hand hurts Faber and a straight left puts him on his rear. Yan cracks him with some hard shots, can’t get the finish and eats a right in return. Two minutes to go.

Yan stuffs a takedown, then crushes Faber with an elbow. Faber on his knees, absorbing punches. Faber grabs the fence to stand and his face is an absolute mess. Yan drags him to the mat and the ref immediately pauses to look at the result of that elbow; there’s a giant cut and swelling beside Faber’s right eye, but they let it continue. Hard punches from Yan. Faber turns for a leg, tries to get a takedown, eats a left. One minute to go. Hard straight right from Faber, dropped again with a right hand. They’re slugging it out. Yan whiffs on a right hand and scores another takedown from the rear waist lock. 10-8 Yan.

Round 3: Yan back on the advance, lands a jab and body kick. Head kick blocked. They tie up and, as Faber exits, Yan knocks him clean out with a head kick. Walk-off KO for “No Mercy.”

170 lbs.: Mike Perry vs. Geoff Neal

Round 1: Heavy body kick lands for Neal in the early going. Straight left a minute in. Overhand right by Perry, who gets rocked by a head kick in return. Neal pouring it on, slumps Perry with a left hand against the fence and drills him for the finish.

Final result: Neal def. Perry by TKO (head kick and punches)


135 lbs.: Irene Aldana vs. Ketlen Vieira

Round 1: Vieira on the advance to start. Low kick from Aldana as she circles. 3-2 from Vieira. 2-3 connects. Aldana with a right downstairs. One minute in. Counter right from Vieira. Big 1-2 from Aldana lands clean and she jabs the body to follow. 1-3. Vieira tries to swarm. Aldana to the body. Two minutes in. She slips a combination. Left hand lands in the center. 3-2 from Vieira. Counter right. Right cross from Aldana, body jab. They trade right hands. Aldana counter right. Two minutes to go.

Vieira left hook. Aldana low kicks. Left hook exchange, Aldana counter right. Body shot lands for her. One minute to go. Good exchanges. Both landing big shots. Suddenly, Aldana uncorks a left hook that completely poleaxes Vieira. She collapses to the mat, barely clinging to consciousness, and quickly gets that pounded out of her.

185 lbs.: Omari Akhmedov vs. Ian Heinisch

Round 1: Trading leg kicks to start. Long right hand lands for Heinisch and they exchange low kicks once more. Heinisch shoots, denied, has to fend off some haymakers on the fence. One minute in. Heinisch tried a body kick, lands a right hand. Akhmedov with an overhand in return. Akhmedov answers a low kick with another overhand. Heinisch with a lead left hook. Two minutes in. Akhmedov falls short with a three-piece, just misses with a counter right. Spin attempt. Two minutes to go.

Akhmedov catches a low kick and comes back with a right hand. Glancing overhand. Heinisch with a body kick. Akhmedov shoots, slams Heinisch down into guard. One minute to go. Heinisch scrambles up, granby rolls away. Left hook lands for Akhmedov. Heinisch with a knee to the body. Akhmedov catches a late kick. 10-9 Akhmedov.

Round 2: Body kick lands for Heinisch. Akhmedov tries a front kick, lands a counter 1-2. Heinisch leg kick. Heinisch tries a knee, faces counters again. One minute in. Spin attempt. Akhmedov with an overhand right. Heinisch really struggling to get his offense flowing. Akhmedov with another lead right. Body shot lands. Two minutes in. Heavy exchange at close range. Akhmedov reverses, lands a knee. They separate, another left hook by Akhmedov. He’s tired, but still striking well. Heinisch shoots in and takes him down against the fence. 170 lbs.: Matt Brown vs. Ben Saunders

Round 1: Saunders tosses out some early kicks. Combination from Brown, blocks a head kick. Another. Step=in hook lands for Brown and he foot-sweeps Saunders to the ground, only to find himself in immediate submission danger. One minute in. Saunders with a reverse triangle, using it to throw elbows. Now hs converts it to a standard triangle. Brown stacking him two minutes in. Brown holding onto Saunders’ wrist, preventing him from advancing the choke. Two minutes to go.

Brown still waiting it out. Saunders trying to pull down on the head. Brown finally gets his other arm into the hold, lands a right hand as Saunders tries to sit up. Saunders trying to use mission control. Brown passes to half guard and lands a couple of elbows. 10-9 Saunders.

Round 2: Chorus ate my writeup, but Brown hurt Saunders with a head kick, chipped away from guard, and ultimately put Saunders away with punches and elbows on the ground.

Final result: Brown def. Saunders by KO (punches and elbows)


145 lbs.: Chase Hooper vs. Daniel Teymur

Round 1: Hooper lands a body kick, eats an overhand right and gets stuck in an anaconda choke. Hooper showing some acrobatics to defend and manages to escape, transitioning into another takedown attempt. He jumps guard, eats a couple right hands and tries to threaten an arm until Teymur makes him stand. Another huge overhand right and Teymur ends up on top in the scramble. Hooper transitions to the back as they stand and puts in a hook. Two minutes in. Short lefts from Hooper on the standing Teymur. He kicks off the fence to get the other hook in and starts droppint punches. Two minutes to go.

Hooper worms his forearm under Teymur’s chin and wraps up the RNC. Heroic defense from Teymur to survive, but now Hooper’s in mount dropping elbows. Hooper retakes the back. then locks up a mounted triangle and unloads with punches and elbows that cut Teymur open and force the ref into action.

Final result: Hooper def. Teymur by TKO (punches and elbows)


125 lbs.: Kai Kara-France vs. Brandon Moreno

Round 3: Eye moving, landing her jab. Araujo pursuing, lands a right hand. Eye digs a right downstairs, whiffs on an overhand. Araujo jab, Eye low kicks. They exchange inside. Araujo body kick. Whiffs on an elbow, eats a combo two minutes in. Eye goes low-high with right hands. Stiff jab. Araujo really not landing this round, again eats the double right.
