Fresh off his first title defense, UFC flyweight champion Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson (17-2-1) is set to defend that title again when he takes on challenger John Moraga (13-1) this coming April in the main event of the TUF 17 Finale.
UFC officials confirmed verbal agreements between the two 125-lb fighters on Monday afternoon at UFC.com.
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will defend his title against John Moraga. Johnson continues to impress and rise up the pound-for-pound ranks with each bout; while Moraga, looking for his ninth straight victory, has been stellar inside the Octagon so far with impressive stoppages in his last two outings.
The TUF 17 Finale (aka The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen Finale) is expected to take place on April 13, 2013 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will feature the middleweight final of the reality series season.
Johnson was in action just a few weeks ago on January 26, having defended his title for the first time by defeating No. 1 contender John Dodson by decision after five rounds of action. The win was Johnson’s third straight putting him at 3-0-1 so far at 125-lbs inside the Octagon. Johnson won the title last September after defeating fellow flyweight tournament finalist Joseph Benavidez by split decision at UFC 152.
Moraga has won seven in a row which includes two wins under the UFC banner since debuting this summer. Moraga earned a “Submission of the Night” bonus in December by submitting opponent Chris Cariaso with a guillotine choke at UFC 155. The former NCAA Division I wrestler debuted inside the Octagon in August UFC on FOX 4 by stopping opponent Ulysses Gomez via first round KO.
