Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight title holder Jon ‘Bones’ Jones received his sentencing for a DWI charge stemming from an incident on May 19, 2012 when Jones crashed his car into a utility pole during the morning hours while driving near his mothers home in Binghamton, New York.
Jones was fined $1,000 and had his driver’s license suspended for six months. The UFC champ will also have to install ignition interlocks on all of his vehicles as well as complete a victim impact panel within ninety days.
An ignition interlocks device is similar to a breathalyzer where the driver is forced to breathe into the device in order to start the vehicle. The device detects the amount of alcohol on ones breath, and if the blood alcohol concentration is above a set level (usually 0.02% or 0.04%), the device prevents the engine from being started.
Jones plead guilty last May to a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. He also paid roughly $7,000 to the utility company to replace the pole he struck with his 2012 Bentley.
The champ is scheduled to face Dan Henderson next on September 1, 2012 in the main event of UFC 151.
