The Ultimate Fighting Championship and “The New York Bad Ass” Phil Baroni (13-13) have parted ways for a second time as news of the fighters release broke late Monday.
Ariel Helwani was the first to report Baroni’s release following the fighters loss to Brad Tavares at last weekends UFC 125 event.
It was the fighters third straight loss which saw him go 0-2 in the UFC in his second run with the promotion. He lost a unanimous decision to Amir Sadollah at UFC 106 and was beaten by Joe Riggs at a Strikeforce event in June of 2009. Baroni had been on a three fight win streak before the trio of losses and now sports a 3-7 record under the UFC promotion.
Baroni, 34, said he plans on “getting back on the horse” immediately after his 60-day medical suspension is over. He doesn’t plan on retiring and would like to remain very active in 2011. He said he has come to grips with the idea of working his way back into a big show.
“Back to the drawing board,” he said.
