Here we go again.
In a press release earlier today (Fri., June 10, 2016), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) revealed that former Featherweight title challenger Chad Mendes has been popped for a ‘potential’ United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) violation from an out-of-competition sample collection.
The UFC’s announcement can be seen below:
“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Chad Mendes of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection.
USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”
Mendes, 31, most recently lost to Frankie Edgar via first-round knockout back at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale in December of 2015. Before that, Mendes (17-4) was finished by Conor McGregor via second-round TKO at UFC 189.
While the substance potentially used by Mendes has yet to be named, it really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. If “Money” does in fact find himself in the USADA doghouse, it’s going to set his career back even further.
Remember, Mendes just suffered his first set of back-to-back loses in his eight-year professional career.
