UFC featherweight Erik ‘New Breed’ Koch (13-1) is scheduled to face champion Jose Aldo this fall when the two meet in the main event of UFC 153.
Speaking to Tatame.com, Koch tells the Brazilian website that he is not here to fight for a decision, he is here to “finish” Aldo which no one has been able to do in the WEC or UFC cages.
Koch has won four straight, and like the champ, only has one loss on his record as well. ‘New Breed’ earned a unanimous decision versus Jonathan Brookins at UFN 25 last September in his last match.
“He’s very good obviously, there’s no doubt. It’s just one of those fights I believe I’m the right match, the right guy to do it. I wanna fight him. Most people don’t want to fight Aldo. You can tell it when they get in there and fight him. They don’t fight him, they’re trying to survive. I’m going there to fight him. He’s a great champion, a really nice guy, but on October 13th I’m gonna take the title”, assured Koch.
Erik believes the last challengers at Aldo’s belt were not willing to finish the fight since they were scared of Jose Aldo, something he assures that will not happen to him.
“People forget that to win a fight you gotta press the pace, you gotta go there and fight. You’re not gonna win the fight surviving. That’s one of the thigns. I’m going in there and I wanna finish the fight. I’m not going in there like: “well, I think I can get it on the decision”. No. I’m very confident in my abilities to finish fights and I’m gonna go in there and I’m gonna do my best to finish him. He’s good, but I think I’m better at some things. Standing I definitely see some areas he can be taken out”, concluded.
UFC 153: Aldo vs. Koch is expected to take place on October 13, 2012, at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
