UFC Fight Night 107: Shogun Rua vs Gian Villante set for March 11 in Brazil

The upcoming UFC Fight Night 107 event — which is slated to go down in Fortaleza, Brazil, on March 11, 2017 — is starting to shape up, as an intriguing Light Heavyweight showdown between former division champion Mauricio Rua and Gian Villante is in the works to take place inside Centro de Formação Olímpica do Nordeste.

The promotion brought word of the matchup earlier today.

Shogun” is currently riding his first two-fight win streak in over seven ears, defeating Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Corey Anderson in back-to-back fights, with his win over “Beating 25/8” coming at UFC 198 this past May (video highlights here).

As for Villante, he is fresh off a second-round technical knockout (TKO) win over Saparbek Safarov, which went down at UFC Fight Night 102 just last month. Alternating wins and losses over his last five contests, a win over a longtime veteran and former champion like Rua would be a huge feather in Gian’s cap.

As for Shogun, a win would give him his first three-fight win streak since his glory days under the PRIDE FC banner.

UFC Fight Night 107 is expected to be headlined by a Middleweight showdown that will see Vitor Belfort and Kelvin Gastelum hook them up, while Edson Barboza returns to face Beneil Dariush in Lightweight action.
