After a busy weekend in “The Buckeye State,” Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to the hurt business this Saturday night (Sept. 17, 2016) for UFC Fight Night 94: “Poirier vs. Johnson,” which takes place inside State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas, live on FOX Sports 1.

The promotion’s latest mixed martial arts (MMA) card will feature a compelling lightweight showdown pitting the resurgent Dustin Poirier against hot-and-cold Ultimate Fighter standout Michael Johnson. Elsewhere on the card, Derek Brunson and Uriah Hall hook ’em up for a spot in the 185-pound title chase.

Round 1: Hall comes out on the advance and Brunson ties up on the fence. Brunson looks for an inside trip, lands a knee. Knee from Brunson. One minute in. They separate. Front kick from Hall. BIG left hand by Brunson and down goes Hall. He drills Hall with left hands until Herb Dean steps in.

Round 1: Front kick from Glenn to start. Combination from Dunham in return. 1-2-3 from Dunham and he follows up with a very nice combo. Counter left land for Glenn, but Dunham puts him on his back and sets up in guard. One minute in. Dunham staying heavy.  He looks for an anaconda, Glenn slips out. Two minutes in. Dunham stands over him, drops some solid punches. Short elbows by Dunham. Glenn tries to turn into him and gives up his back. Two minutes to go.

One hook in for Dunham. He’s fihting for the choke and he steadily works his elbow under Glenn’s chin. Glenn manages to win the handfight and peel away his grip. One minute to go. Dunham tries to pin down an arm with his leg, can’t do so. Glenn regains half guard before round’s end. 10-9 Dunham.

Round 2: Good left hand by Glenn in the early going. Dunham lands a combination in return, can’t get the takedown. His next level change is more successful and he takes Glenn down into guard. Side control for Dunham. Glenn turns into him and Dunham locks up a d’arce. Glenn slips out, but Dunham still has top position. One minute in. Side control again for Dunham and ha looks for the d’arce. Glenn slips out and stands, but Dunham ties him up against the cage. Good work in the clinch from Dunham, who moves to the rear waistlock. Two minutes in. Glenn spins to face him, can’t dislodge him. Now he manages to circle off. 1-2 by Dunham. Again. Two minutes to go.

Round 3: Dunham lands a left early and shoots in. Glenn defending thus far. Elbows by Dunham before he separates. More combination work by Dunham. One minute in. Glenn shoots, stuffed and Dunham presses him against the cage. They separate. 1-2 by Dunham and a right hook behind it. He shoots, stuffed. More boxing, Dunham getting the better of it. Dunham body kick, then a punching combination. Glenn changes levels, stuffed and Dunham whacks him with a head kick amid the punching onslaught. Hard straight left. One minute to go. Round 1: Robertson ties up early. Carneiro reverses position and presses him against the fence. Carneiro looking for the back, kicks off the fence and  brings it to the ground. Robertson manages to take top position, then slips out when Carneiro tries to sweep. One minute in. Right hand from Robertson, one from Carneiro in return. Carneiro shoots and presses him against the fence. Carneiro separates with a knee. Two minutes in. Robertson lands an overhand right. He’s on the front foot at the moment. Round 1: Low kicks from Wade. High kick from Makhachev and he shoots in. He gets Wade to his knees and looks to drag him away from the fence. Wade with a front headlock as he defends on his rear. One minute in. Makhachev pops his head free and sets up in half guard. He hops right to mount and looks for an armbar, but Wade manages to roll over into Makhachev’s guard. Makhachev tosses up a triangle and steadily cinches it up. Makhavev gets the dominant angle and squeezes down. Two minutes to go.

Wade still defending and Makhachev ultimately gives up the choke. One minute to go. Wade passes to half guard. Makhachev looks for deep half guard before the bell. 10-9 Makhachev.

Round 2: Wade on the front foot early. 1-2 by Makhachev. Counter left and Makhachev hits a reactive takedown. Wade slaps on a Marcelotine as he does and rolls Makhachev over. Makhachev gives a thumbs-up when the ref comes to investigate. One minute in. Makhachev rolls him back over ant takes half guard. Makhachev looks for the back, can’t get the second hook in and Wade takes top position. He goes for a guillotine and Makhachev rolls him into side control. Two minutes in. Makhachev looking for the mounted crucifix. Wade rolls into turtle position. Two minutes to go.

Makhachev staying heavy and looking for the back. One hook in for the Dagestani. Wade tries to turn into him and shoots in. Makhachev reverses it and returns to Wade’s back. One minute to go. Makhachev staying heavy as Wade works from turtle position. Wade looks for a leg. Makhachev defends until the bell. 10-9 Makhachev.

Round 3: Wade tries a high kick early on. Makhachev lands a straight left and takes Wade to the fence. He changes levels and puts Wade on his butt. One minute in. Wade looking for a Kimura and uses it to roll Makhachev over into mount. Makhachev reverses in turn and Wade pulls guard on a guillotine. Makhachev slips out and takes half guard. He hops into mount, Wade regains half guard. Two minutes in. Makhachev still on top in half guard, passes to mount and takes the back. Full body triangle for the Dagestani, two minutes to go.

Round 1: Both come out throwing kicks. Skelly knocks Blanco over with his front kick and slaps on an anaconda choke when the Venezuelan tries to shoot in. Blanco goes to sleep in his grip and Skelly has one of the fastest submissions you’ll ever see.

Round 1: Benitez looking to strike at range, lands a good low kick. Body kick, low kick. One minute in. Sicilia comes in slinging heat, eats a knee to the body. Low kicks from Benitez. Sicilia continues to wing big shots. Two minutes in. Another pair of leg kicks by Benitez. Sicilia tries a high kick. Two minutes to go.

Sicilia lands a left hook on the fence. He’s still having issues with Benitez’s range. Body kick from Sicilia, low kick from Benitez. Sicilia rips a right to the body. Another low kick knocks his leg back. Sicilia tries to catch one and comes up with a left hook. Sicilia connects with a flurry against the cage. 1-2 by Benitez. Sicilia ducks into a head kick, but comes back with power shots. 10-9 Benitez.

Round 2: Benitez still staying just out of range of most of Sicilia’s shots. Benitez body kick and he drops Sicilia with a straight left. Sicilia latches onto a leg and tries to shoot, eating vicious elbows as he does. He manages to survive and return to his feet. Low kick and body kick from Benitez. Sicilia shoots and Benitez slaps on a vicious Marcelotine. Sicilia staggers back to the fence, then goes limp in Benitez’ grip.

Round 1: Side kicks from Montano. Head kick from Muhammad falls just short. Montano fires a low kick and hits cup. Muhammad takes some time and returns to action. One minute in. Montano still looking to maintain range. Montano launching side kicks to the body and legs. Overhand right dings Montano, Muhammad stays patient. Two minutes in. Another overhand from Muhammad and a left hook after eating a low kick. Montano again with the inside low kicks. Muhammad with a right downstairs. Two minutes to go.

Body kick lands for Muhammad. Montano continues to work his kicks, Muhammad hooks off the jab. Muhammad catches a finger in the eye. Head kick from Muhammad after they resume catches Montano, who retaliates by booting his leg a couple times. One minute to go. 1-2 from Muhammad. Muhammad changes levels and hauls Montano to the fence. “Dodger” gets his leg out and eats a head kick soon after. 10-9 Muhammad.

Round 2: Montano keeping up the kicks. Solid inside low kicks. Muhammad again clips him with a head kick. Right hand lands for Montano, who eats a 1-2. One minute in. Muhammad with a nice level change and he puts Montano on his back. Half guard for Muhammad. Two minutes in. Muhammad makes a nice transition to the back and puts in both hooks. He tries to take mount, Montano catches him in half guard. Two minutes to go.

Muhammad hops right to mount and the back, but Montano manages to scramble to his feet. Muhammad looks for a head kick, eats a few low kicks. One minute to go. Muhammad tags the body as the low kicks from Montano continue. Lead hooks by Muhammad. Straight left lands for him and a knee to the body. 10-9 Muhammad.

Round 3: Montano keeping up the low kicks. Left hook by Muhammad. One minute in. More work at range by “Dodger” as Muhammad looks to counter. Muhammad ducks a right hand, grabs the rear waistlock, and drags him to the mat with hooks in place. Two minutes in. Montano furiously tries to scramble up but can’t duslocge Muhammad. He does manage to turn to face him, then stand. Straight left and left hook from Muhammad. Montano stalking forward, fires a head kick. Two minutes to go.

More low kicks by the Mexican. He looks a bit winded and Muhammad comes after him, swinging heat. Left hook lands. Lovely reactive takedown by Muhammad and he’s got the back again, dropping punches. One minute to go. Muhammad continues to pound away . Montano tries to roll, but he has no answer for Muhammad’s offense and Herb Dean steps in.

Round 1: Guimaraes jabs the body. Carlos sticking out his own jab. One minute in. Brief slip. slow fight thus far. Lots of feinting, no real action. Crowd’s not happy. Two minutes in. Carlos with a check hook, eats an overhand right and lands another hook. Carlos shoots, looking for a single-leg. Two minutes to go.

Guimaraes slips out and Carlos looks for a combination. Carlos again looks for a takedown. One minute to go. He gets Guimaraes to the mat and lands a borderline illegal knee as he stands. The referee takes a point. I hate this commission. Carlos comes out aggressively and hits a takedown. Guimaraes scrambles back up and gets taken down again. 9-9.

Round 2: Guimaraes comes out aggressively. Carlos ties up and looks for the back, but wins up on his own back. He immediately slaps on an omoplata and sweeps to top position. Carlos looking for the back, has one hook in and lands right hands. One minute in. Guimaraes warned for holding the gloves as Carlos patiently digs away with right hands. Two minutes in. Knees to the butt form Carlos, who tries to get back mount but settles for keeping one hook in. Two minutes to go.

Guimaraes really doing nothing right now as Carlos bashes him with right hands. One minute to go. The right hands continue to pile up. Guimaraes finally scoots to the fence and manages to stand, eating a knee to the body as he does. Carlos hits another takedown and Guimaraes holds onto a guillotine at the bell. 10-8 Carlos.

Round 3: Guimaraes comes out looking aggressive again. Counter right by Carlos and he shoots, putting him on the fence. Carlos continues to drive. Guimaraes grabs a guillotine and pulls guard with it. One minute in. Carlos patient, waiting it out, and he pulls his head out. Half guard. Guimaraes scrambles up onto all fours. Two minutes in. Carlos bullies him back down with a double-leg, grabs the rear waistlock, and the ref lets Guimaraes repeatedly grab the fence. Carlos takes him down anyway. Guimaraes stands, gets slammed. Two minutes to go.

Guimaraes gets back up, keeps grabbing the fence. Carlos takes him down once again and transitions right to the back. Full body triangle. One minute to go. Carlos works his forearm under Guimaraes’ chin and draws the tap in the waning seconds.

Final result: Carlos def. Guimaraes by submission (rear-naked choke)

Round 1: Quinenz ties up and hits an immediate trip into side control. Gomez scrambles up, Quinonez slams him right back down. Again Gomez pops back to his feet and manages to separate. Quinonez slips on a head kick. One minute in. Gomez low kick and body kick. Head kick from Quinonez, right hand by Gomez. Quinonez catches a body kick and takes him down into guard. Gomez with an overhook, loses it. Two minutes in. Quinonez lands a knee as Gomez stands that looks legal, but the ref backs them up and warns Quinonez. Hard right hand from Gomez inside. Two minutes to go.

Overhand right from El Teco, left hook by Gomez. Gomez lands a body kick, Quinonez lands one in return and follows up with vicious punches that send Gomez to the ground. Gomez lands a brief sweep, then an upkick that gives him room to stand. One minute to go. Body kick from Quinonez and Gomez nods appreciatively. Knee from Quinonez and they trade punches. 10-9 Quinonez.

Round 2: Lead left hook from Quinonez. Uppercut, straight left. Gomez ties up and Quinonez trips him to the mat. Half guard for Quinonez. Gomez makes it to his feet. One minute in. Knee to the body from Quinonez and he looks for the back. Gomez manages to face him and counter a takedown, separating. Two minutes in. Jumping knee attempt by Quinonez, then a body kick connects. Solid punches inside by Gomez and he’s rung Quinonez’s bell. The Mexican throws a kick and Gomez knocks him down with a straight left. Quinonez soon gets his wits back and stands. Two minutes to go.

More hard body kicks and a cracking left cross form Quinonez. Right hook from Quinonez. Counter right lands for Gomez. 1-2 by Gomez. One minute to go. Both men landing late. Gomez denies a takedown. Quinonez bleeding from near the left eye. 10-9 Gomez on late work.

Round 3: Body kick from Quinonez. Knee from Quinonez after a failed takedown. Front kicks by El Teco, targeting the body. One minute in. Big knee and down goes Gomez. Quinonez sets up in his guard, passes smoothly to mount. Two minutes in. Quinonez lands an elbow and takes his back, then back to mount. Gomez gives up his back and Quinonez works to soften him up as he works for the choke. Two minutes to go.

Gomez manages to get to butterfly guard. He sweeps his way to the feet. Body kick from Quinonez as Gomez marches forward. One minute to go. Quinonez circling, looking to counter. 10-9 Quinonez.

Round 1: Brown on the front foot, throwing side kicks. Montano avoiding most of his shots, ties up when Brown throws a wild right. One minute in. Brown reverses position and presses him against the cage. They jockey for position. Brown with some knees to the body, Montano appears to grab the top of the cage to stop an outside trip. Montano with a right on the exit. Left hands inside from the Mexican before Brown clinches up. Two minutes in. Brown pressing him into the fence. Two minutes to go.

Brown tries to spin him to the mat, instead lands a big knee to the head and right uppercut. Montano reverses position. One minute to go.  Referee separates them. Lead right from Brown as Montano tries to land kicks. Brown body kick. Leg kicks by Montano and Brown again puts him on the fence. Montano goes for a high-crotch at the bell. 10-9 Brown.

Round 2: Right hand lands for Montano in the center. Brown backs him to the fence, lands punches, and takes Montano to the ground. Montano scrambles up and gets in on a leg. Montano finishes the takedown into guard. One minute in. Brown brings up his legs for an armbar, Montano snuffs it out and Brown switches to a triangle. Montano gets side control, Brown regains guard. Montano postures out of a triangle attempt and comes down with a right hand. Montano stands and Brown tries to shoot. Brown blatantly grabs the fence when Montano changes levels, long after the referee said “last warning.” No point deduction, of course. Montano slams him down into side control, two minutes to go.

The refereeing tonight is pathetic.  Montano staying heavy. One minute to go. The announcers are laughing at the ref for doing nothing when Brown constantly grabs the fence with his toes. Good God, the Texas commission is a joke. 10-9 Montano.

Round 3: Brown wades in and Montano shoots directly into a power guillotine. Brown pulls guard and Montano quickly taps.

Round 1: Morales stalking forward, Perez circling and switching stances. Inside low kick by Morales. Perez slips a 1-2, lands a low kick. Quick exchange and they trade bombs on the fence. Perez shoots, stuffed. BLATANTLY illegal knee by Morales as Perez slips, referee completely misses it. Perez sweeps and briefly sets up in guard. Morales scrambles up, two minutes in.
