UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Hunt live results, discussion, play by play

Live, blow-by-blow updates for today’s UFC event in Auckland, which is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Derrick Lewis and Mark Hunt.

The headliner comes in the heavyweight division, with heavy hitter Derrick Lewis fighting the legendary Mark Hunt on his own turf.

Today’s event is in New Zealand, but will coincide with regular Fight Night times. Live results and play-by-play will commence with the Fight Pass broadcast at 7pm ET/4pm PT for two fights. The event will then flip over to FS1 for four more prelims starting at 8pm ET, and stay there for the full main card which goes down at 10pm ET. The full lineup and schedule follows. Round 1 – Pearson with a nice right hook. Inside leg kick. Hooker has a kick caught. Outside leg kick from Hooker. Again. Pearson scooped a single and whiffed on a right hook. Outside leg kick from Pearson and he lands a nice combo. Pearson lands a right hook as Hooker connects with a leg kick. Nice lead left hook from Pearson. More leg kicks from Hooker. Head kick from Hooker. Pearson muscles him into the cage and lands a knee and uppercut. More leg kicks from Hooker. He shot in but got stuffed. Another head kick from Hooker. Hooker with a leg kick that spins Pearson right around. Close round. I’ll go 10-9 Hooker.

Round 2 – Pearson with a nice wide hook. Hooker jabbing. Inside leg kick from Pearson. Outside leg kick from hooker. Body shot from Pearson. Hard left hook from Pearson. He’s starting to get his timing. More jabs from Hooker. His nose is bleeding. Pearson has a small cut under his left eye. Hard straight right from Hooker. Another. Straight knee up the middle right on the chin and PEARSON IS OUT COLD! WOW! He knocked out his mouthpiece with the shot too! One hammerfist wasn’t even necessary.

Round 1 – Cutelaba throwing huge shots early! Henrique is down! Cutelaba pounded him out just like that. That was crazy!

Tim Elliott vs. Ben Nguyen

Round 1 – Elliott looking for an immediate takedown, but getting touched up by Nguyen. Nguyen rolls through and takes Elliott’s back. Now he’s on his back standing. He sinks a choke and Elliott falls down! Its’ under the chin and Elliott tapped just like that! Incredible finish.

Mizuto Hirota vs. Alex Volkanovski

Round 1 – Lots of feinting to start. Nice left from Hirota. Inside leg kick from Volkanovski, then high. He landed a right and clinched up. A couple of knees from the former rugby player. A big shot puts Hirota down! Volkanovski opened up with some huge ground and pound. Hirota looked to be in trouble immediately bu he recovered. He dropped for a leg lock but used it to stand up. Volkanovski clinched up again and landed a knee. Beautiful spinning elbow connects! Wow! Hirota took it though. They trade leg kicks. Hirota with a nice right but gets taken down. Hirota gets back up but eats a knee. Knee to the belly from Hirota. 10-8 Volkanovski for the near-finish.

Round 2 – Heavy jab from Hirota to start. Volkanovski clinches up as Hirota lands a combo. Nice right from Volkanovski. Another big shot stumbles Hirota on the break! Volkanovski gets a takedown. Hirota gets back to his feet but he’s still pressed against the fence. Right hook from Volkanovski. Volkanovski misses with a spinning elbow and falls down, but he bucked Hirota off of him immediately. Straight left from Hirota. They’re both missing more frequently now. Hirota presses forward with strikes. Volkanovski with a nice counter left hook. Hirota with an uppercut. Counter right hook that time from Volkanovski. And another! Hirota didn’t get knocked down, but he went to his back. Volkanovski opens up with GnP again. 10-9 Volkanovski.

Round 3 – Nice combo from both men. Volkanovski clinches. Spinning elbow again! Lead right hook from Volkanovski after they reset. Hirota tried for an outside trip but Volkanovski jumped it. That was cool. Hirota gets a bodylock. Couldn’t get the takedown though. Jab and right hook from Volkanovski. He looked for another takedown. Hirota with a good combo. Nice left hook from Volkanovski. Head kick from Hirota. He can’t get a takedown. Lead right hook for Volkanovski. 10-9 and 30-26 Volkanovski.

Damien Brown vs. Vinc Pichel

Round 1 – Pichel with a nice combo. Brown scores with a right hook. They both connect with hands. Hard leg kick from Pichel but he got countered with a right hook. Brown with another counter right. Yet another. And another. Leg kick from Brown. Big uppercut from Pichel. Brown responded. Hard counter right again. It’s his best weapon. Pichel with a huge right uppercut backing up! Brown is down! Ground and pound and it’s over! That was pretty sweet.

Luke Jumeau vs. Dominique Steele

Round 1 – Slow start. They exchange as Steele runs in. Inside leg kick from Jumeau. Spinning back fist connects for Steele. They both miss with big punches. Jumeau with a nice combo. Steele with a long right hook. He pushes Jumeau against the fence briefly. Leg kick from Jumeau. Jumeau to the body. Jumeau kicked him in the butt. Steele lands a shot, ducks the counter, and drags Jumeau to the mat. He worked from side. Jumeau recovered guard but ate a few elbows. 10-9 Steele.

Round 2 – Nice left from Steele. He charged in but Jumeau fought off a takedown attempt. Jumeau landed a big shot behind the ear that stuns Steele! He went in for the kill but Steele held on. Foot stomps from Jumeau get a rise out of the crowd. Steele with some knees in the clinch. Jumeau fights off another takedown attempt as they jockey for position. The finally separate with 2:15 to go. Steele whiffs badly on a spinning back fist attempt. Jumeau shrugs off a takedown attempt and they clinch again. Foot stomps. Steele reverses and lands foot stomps of his own. 10-9 Jumeau.

Round 3 – Steele throws a wild punch like he’s pitching a baseball. Unsurprisingly, he missed. He clinched up and looked for a takedown. Jumeau reverses position. Lands an elbow. Steele reverses back. The ref separates them with three minutes to go. Jumeau lands two nice counters. A lead right hook drops Steele! He gets back up and Jumeau is all over him, but Steele is firing back! Very good sequence there. Hard straight left from Jumeau. Steele looking for a takedown against the cage yet again. He almost had the single down but Jumeau showed off some nice balance (and may have grabbed the cage). Jumeau spins out with 25 seconds left. He lands a big right hook. He easily sprawls to avoid a takedown. Another right from Jumeau. 10-9 and 29-28 Jumeau.

Ashkan Mokhtarian vs. John Moraga

Round 1 – Moraga with a low inside leg kick. Mokhtarian charges in but hits air. Moraga with an inside leg kick. Mokhtarian shot in but ended a guillotine. It looked deep but he powered out of it. Mokhtarian holds Moraga against the fence and looks for a takedown. They separate with 2:10 to go. Moraga with a nice combo. Mokhtarian with another takedown attempt, but had his back taken. Moraga immediately sinks a choke but can’t get it. Few big shots on the top from Moraga, but Mokhtarian grabbed a leg. Moraga sets up the topside guillotine. He settles for a few elbows instead. Moraga rides the back and lands some big elbows. He’s looking for an armbar from the bottom close to the end of the round. Can’t get it. 10-9 Moraga.

Round 2 – Hard sweeping inside leg kick from Mokhtarian that wobbles Moraga’s base. Mokhtarian with his own inside leg kick. Moraga with a long right hook that backs Mokhtarian off, and he cracks him with a flying knee! That was nice. Body shot from Moraga. Inside leg kick from Mokhtarian. They exchange from range. Front kick gets caught by Moraga and he puts his opponent on the mat. He moved to side, then over to a loose mount. He takes the back, then gets a much higher mount. He’s looking to set up an arm triangle. Again he’s short on time. He rolled for a late armbar again. 10-9 Moraga.

Round 3 – Moraga with a big bodylock takedown. Looked for an armbar again but Mokhtarian scrambled away. Moraga stayed on top though, in side. He’s looking for a modified guillotine now, but just decided to take mount instead. He’s in complete control. Takes the back. Back to mount. Looking for the armbar again but Mokhtarian defended well and he’s on top. Nice win for Moraga. I’ll go 10-8 there and 30-26 overall.

Kiichi Kunimoto vs. Zak Ottow

Round 1 – Leg kick from Kunimoto. Ottow with his own. Another nice one from Kunimoto. Straight right from Ottow. Kunimoto presses forward but eats a counter right. Nice inside leg kick from Ottow. Ottow clinches up. That doesn’t last long though. Body kick from Ottow. Kunimoto returns it. Big combo from Ottow knocked Kunimoto off balance. Two rights from Ottow force Kunimoto to shoot. He gets stuffed, but persists against the cage. They battle in the clinch but Kunimoto just can’t get him down. Kunimoto lands a right on the eventual break. 10-9 Ottow.

Round 2 – Nice shot from Ottow right away. Kunimoto acknowledges it and fires back. They trade kicks. Kunimoto gets a takedown. He controlled position for a few seconds but Ottow got up and pushed Kumimoto down against the fence. Otoow takes his back with one hook. He lands a few punches and sinks the other hook. He’s trying to sink a choke but doesn’t have him flattened out and the cage is in the way. Kunimoto rolls into guard! Nicely down. He lands a punch and looks for a topside guillotine. Ottow took back top position near the horn. 10-9 Ottow.

Round 3 – Ottow misses with some slow punches. Kunimoto with a nice double leg takedown. Kunimoto is grinding away but not landing a ton of punches. He is controlling position though. Ottow gives up his back to try to get up and Kunimoto sinks his hooks. Short punches. Ottow rolls through and works from the top. They get back to the feet. Kunimoto dropped for a guillotine at the horn. 10-9 Kunimoto, but 29-28 Ottow.

Zak Ottow defeated Kiichi Kunimoto by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

J.J. Aldrich vs. Chan-Mi Jeon

Round 1 – Aldrich closes the distance right away. Body kick from her. Jeon returns one. Aldrich with a left. Body kick from Jean lands at the same time Aldrich lands a right. Jeon with a combo. Head kick from Aldrich. That woke the crowd up. Jeon with a right hook. Aldrich landed one too. Hard body kick from Jeon. Outside leg kick too. Jeon pushed her down in the clinch and lands a couple of ground strikes before Aldrich rolled away. Another body kick from Jeon. Aldrich with a combo. Front kick from Jeon but Aldrich cracked her with a left hook. Inside leg kick from Aldrich, and a right. Another inside leg kick. Jeon fires back with her hands, but ate a counter right hook. Close round, but 10-9 Aldrich.

Round 2 – Nice jab from Aldrich. Hard leg kick from Jeon lands at the same time as a left hook. This has happened a few times now. Aldrich with a right hook. Jeon with a jab. They trade in close. Aldrich misses with two straight lefts and lands an inside leg kick. Jeon leg kick, counter left hook from Aldrich. Aldrich lands another jab. They trade inside leg kicks. Jeon with some nice head movement. Jeon comes forward with some big shots. She really turned it on in the last 10 seconds. 10-9 Aldrich.

Round 3 – Jeon with a loud scream before the round starts. Jeon slips through a left hook. She’s staying very active. Body kick from Jeon. Aldrich counters. Huge right hook from Aldrich wobbles Jeon a bit. Jab and move for Aldrich. Outside leg kick from Jeon. Stiff straight left from Aldrich. Another straight left. Aldrich with another hard shot and a bloodied Jeon is waving her in. Another big counter straight left. Nice combo. They trade a bit in the pocket. They throw down at the 10-second clacker. Jeon lands a hard shot late, but Aldrich takes the cards 10-9 and 30-27.
