UFC Fight Night: Struve vs. Volkov live results, discussion, play by play

Live, blow-by-blow updates for today’s UFC event in Rotterdam, which is headlined by a heavyweight fight between Stefan Struve and Alexander Volkov.

The headliner comes in the heavyweight division, with Stefan Struve looking to impress the home country crowd when he faces fellow lanky big man Alexander Volkov.

Today’s event is in the Netherlands, and kicks off early. The undercard apparently begins at 11:45am ET/8:45am PT on Fight Pass with eight fights. But that seems kind of short on time since the four-fight main card is going forward at 3pm ET/Noon PT (also on Fight Pass). 8 fights in 3 hours and 15 minutes? I’ll be getting up early just in case they decide to start this earlier, and so should you.

Stefan Struve vs. Alexander Volkov

Round 1 – Struve with a combo. Volkov throwing leg kicks. Volkov moves forward with punches. Nice jab from Struve and a jump knee. Both men are trying to check the leg kicks. Volkov with a nice jab. Head kick from Struve but Volkov caught it. Nice counter from Volkov. Uppercut and a hard right score for Struve. Good start. Body kick from Volkov. Jab and a knee from Struve. Another uppercut. Hard knee to the stomach from Volkov. Another jump knee from Struve cuts Volkov. Volkov responded with a takedown and some powerful GnP. 10-9 Struve.

Round 2 – Struve with a right, Volkov counters. Uppercut again from Struve. Inside low kick from Volkov chopped Struve down while he was attacking. He’s up right away though. Eye poke from Struve. Volkov needs some time. They’re back to it and they’re both attacking straight off. Nice straight right from Struve. Volkov fires back with an uppercut. Volkov bringing the pressure now. Big shots from Volkov. Another eye poke from Struve and referee Marc Goddard still doesn’t take a point. Struve with a leg kick. Volkov with a knee and a left. Struve with a hard right but Volkov fires right back. Volkov pressing and he’s all over Struve. 10-9 Volkov.

Round 3 – Volkov with a nice left. Another eye poke. Actually I think they both got eyepoked at the same time. That was weird. The pace is a bit slower here. Nice straight right from Struve. Once again Volkov immediately comes back with his own big shot. Volkov buckles Struve’s leg with a leg kick. And he landed a hard right hook. Inside leg kicks from Volkov. Nice right again. Volkov drops Struve with a combo! He continues the assault and gets the finish.

Siyar Bahadurzada vs. Rob Wilkinson

Round 1 – Inside leg kick from Wilkinson. Head kick from Wilkinson but Bahadurzada just threw him across the cage. Inside leg kick from Wilkinson. Hard right from Siyar. They trade knees in the clinch. Wilkinson gets a brief takedown. He looked for another but couldn’t get it. Siyar landed a left on the clinch break. Huge body kick from Bahadurzada and he looked to snatch up a choke. Wilkinson escaped. Takedown from Wilkinson but Siyar powers his way up again. Hard knee from Wilkinson. 10-9 Wilkinson.

Round 2 – They both miss with big punches. Front kick from Wilkinson. Jab too. Siyar with a right hook. Nice two-punch combo from Wilkinson. Another right from Bahadurzada. Wilkinson went back to the jab. Left straight at an odd angle stuns Wilkinson. Lead uppercut drops Wilkinson! He’s all over him! Wilkinson got up but got dropped again! Siyar keeps up the pressure and gets the stoppage.

Talita Bernardo vs. Marion Reneau

Round 1 – Bernardo with a leg kick. Reneau pressures. Body kick from Reneau but Bernardo took her down off of it. Reneau with an upkick as Bernardo backed out of guard in an attempt to pass. Same sequence happened again. Beautiful sweep from Reneau but Bernardo threatened with a knee bar and she regains top position. Reneau looks for a triangle. Now an armbar. Bernardo fights it off. She passed and moved to north south. She gets the back briefly but Reneau gets full guard back. 10-9 Bernardo.

Round 2 – Reneau presses forward right away again. Nice combo against the fence and a hard right. Reneau landed a left hook and Bernardo shot in for a takedown. Reneau was having none of it. Bernardo is slowing down. Right scores again for Reneau. Nice body shot. Bernardo flops to her back hoping to engage there, but Reneau makes her stand up. The next takedown attempt got Reneau to the floor though. Reneau back up fairly quickly and lands a knee to the gut. Nice combo against the fence. 10-9 Reneau.

Round 3 – Reneau charges forward immediately. But Bernardo with a nice trip takedown. Short elbow. Reneau is cut over the eye. Reneau has almost secured a triangle, but not quite. Bernardo fought it off but she re-secured it. Bernardo fought it off again though. Bernardo isn’t doing anything on top and she’s dead tired. Reneau gets a guillotine, then spins to the back and on top. Bernardo looked for a leg lock but Reneau spins to her back again and tries to secure a choke. Punches now. Bernardo just covering up. Reneau still looking for the late finish with strikes. After dropping a ton, she gets it just before the horn.

Leon Edwards vs. Bryan Barberena

Round 1 – Just feinting so far. Outside leg kick from Edwards. Barberena returns it. Head kick from Edwards. Barberena continues to kick low. Edwards goes back to the outside leg kick. Nice right hook from Edwards. They trade shots. Body kick from Barberena but he goes taken down. He gets the back in a seated position. Edwards secures hooks and looks for a choke. Can’t get it though. 10-9 Edwards.

Round 2 – They brawl in close. Barberena with a knee in the clinch. Edwards looking for a trip takedown. He can’t get it and they separate after 90 seonds. Nice jab from Edwards. Outside leg kick from Barberena. Edwards catches a kick and jumps on Barberena’s back. Barberena fights him off but Edwards keeps up the pressure against the cage. They finally reset and trade shots. Barberena rocked Edwards with a big shot and he’s all over him on the ground! Two big elbows. Edwards was in control until that. He can’t get the finish though. 10-9 Barberena.

Round 3 – They trade hard shots early. Good shot from Barberena. Edwards gets a takedown. He secures the back, and gets a body triangle. He is really hunting for the choke but Barberena is fighting it off. Edwards can’t get the arm under the chin. Barberena wills his way to his feet, but Edwards still has his back. He now spins around and looks for another takedown. Barberena looks for a kimura as he goes down to his butt. He’s back up. Back elbow from Barberena. He rolls for a leg lock. 10-9 and 29-28 Edwards.

Darren Till vs. Bojan Velickovic

Round 1 – Outside leg kick from Velickovic. Again. They’re smiling at each other. Til hasn’t really landed anything yet. All kicks so far from Velickovic. Till grabs a kick and lands a left. Hard step-in elbow from Till and Velickovic is down! Big cut on the side of his head. Till looking to secure a guillotine but Velickovic is up. They’re playing to the crowd. Till easily sidesteps a takedown attempt. Till wobbled him again. Jab from Till. 10-9 Till.

Round 2 – Till with a hard jab right away. Outside leg kick from Velickovic.. He looks for a takedown but can’t get it. Hard left cross from Till. He caught a kick and landed a hard shot on the ground as Velickovic went to his back. Hammerfists from the bottom from Velickovic while Till shakes his head and smiles. Huge left from Till, and again. Velickovic gets a headlock and they stall out. They return to the feet. Outside leg kick from Velickovic again. That’s his best weapon so far. Jab from Velickovic. Outside leg kick and a left hook from Velickovic. 10-9 Till.

Round 3 – Velickovic kicking again. He fakes a takedown. Till caught a kick and landed a hard left. Velickovic waved him in for more. Velickovic missed with a head kick. Till lands a left but eats a hard counter. Hard lead right from Till drops Velickovic! He lands a couple of shots on the ground, then tells him to get back up. Hard elbow again. Till is still maintaining a patient pace, picking his shots. Sweet spinning elbow from Till. Velickovic has recovered. This was fun. 10-9 and 30-27 Till.

Mairbek Taisumov vs. Felipe Silva

Not much happening early. Silva charges forward but doesn’t land. Taisumov misses with a big right, but lands an outside leg kick. Silva misses with a right and gets slept with the counter right! WOW! One-punch KO. That was beautiful.

Michel Prazeres vs. Mads Burnell

Round 1 – Prazeres with some quick punches and he clinches. He gets a takedown. Prazeres passes to side, but Burnell recovers. Prazeres tries the other side and gets there. He’s not doing anythign with it though. He looks to get to mount but gets bucked off and they return to their feet with 1:15 to go. Prazeres with an immediate takedown. Back to side. This time he gets to mount, but only for a few seconds before Burnell recovers half guard. 10-9 Prazeres.

Round 2 – Two kicks from Burnell and they tie up. They trade shots on the inside. Uppercut in the clinch from Burnell. Burnell wobbled Prazeres with a left but immediately got taken down by the bulky Brazilian. He’s working to pass against the cage. Prazeres moves to mount with 90 seconds to go, but not for long. The crowd isn’t enthalled by the grappling-heavy game. Prazeres briefly looks for a north-south choke. 10-9 Prazeres.

Round 3 – They trade big shots in close. Prazeres gets a takedown. Shocker. He immediately passes to side. He spins around and secures a north south choke. And gets the finish!

Rustam Khabilov vs. Desmond Green

Round 1 – Khabilov lands a right. Green fires back. Khabilov quickly ties him and lands a suplex, but Green scrambles away as soon as he lands. They tie up and Khabilov slams him to the mat. He pops up right away but Khabilov is throwing him around. Green finally gets some space. Body kick from Green but it got caught. Green gets in on the hips for a takedown but Khabilov sluffs him off. 10-9 Khabilov.

Round 2 – Khabilov threatens with a takedown but Green lands a quick elbow. They trade leg kicks. Khabilov with a right. Straight left from Green during a takedown attempt from his opponent. Body kick from Khabilov. Green scores with a right. Closer round. They both miss with punches. Khabilov gets a single but Green fights him off. They trade rights. 10-9 Khabilov.

Round 3 – Khabilov looks for an early knee. Green misses with a right. He’s not putting forth a lot of output on offense. Khabilov with a right, then a counter right. Green took his back briefly but couldn’t do anything with it. Khabilov with a pawing left. Nice right from Khabilov. He’s clearly the aggressor here. They both miss with winging shots. Green gets a takedown and back control, but it’s too late. 10-9 and 30-27 Khabilov.

Francimar Barroso vs. Aleksandar Rakic

Round 1 – Measured start. Nice jab from Barroso. Rakic misses with a winging right. He landed in the next time. Barroso with an uppercut when he tried it for a third time. Barroso with a right. Rakic cracks him again, then landed a hard leg kick. Beautiful uppercut from Rakic. Body kick too. They tie up against the fence. 10-9 Rakic.

Round 2 – Rakic with a quick right. Another huge one this time. Outside leg kick. They trade low kicks. Rakic measuring distance well and cracks Barroso with two more shots. Nice straight right to the body. Barroso with an outside leg kick. Nice body kick from Rakic. Barroso got a takedown against the cage with 1:45 to go. He just wrapped him up and tried to keep him there, but Rakic got away and started landing hard on his feet. Another takedown from Barroso. 10-9 Rakic.

Round 3 – Rakic coming forward again. Barroso has a takedown attempt swatted away. Body kick from Rakic, and again. Nice right. Slower pace in this round. Rakic with a nice body shot. Barroso complained of an eye poke but referee Marc Goddard said it was from a punch and Rakic attacks. Barroso shakes it off and defends. Then kicks Rakic in the cup, lol. Barroso looked for a takedown on the restart but Rakic defends and lands two rights. Another takedown attempt stuffed. 10-9 and 30-27 Rakic.

Mike Santiago vs. Zabit Magomedsharipov

Round 1 – Magomedsharipov led with a hook kick, then a spinning back kick. Wow. Santiago pressures him and they trade kicks. Magomedsharipov looks for a takedown but Santiago uses a whizzer to not give up the advantage. Magomedsharipov with a ton of crazy kicks, including a Showtime kick. Crazy stuff. He gets Santiago over to the cage and lands some big elbows and punches. Santiago ties him up. Body kick from Santiago when they finally separate. Magomedsharipov with more flashy offense. 10-9 Magomedsharipov.

Round 2 – Step-in elbow from Magomedsharipov, and a backwards heel kick. That was amazing. He tied Santiago up and took him down with an arm and leg trapped. This guy is ridiculous. Magomedsharipov looks for a choke. He cant get it so he opened up with punches. Santiago looked for a kimura from the bottom, but not for long. He takes the back and continues to look for the choke. After a few more punches, he’s finally able to secure it. Night night. This guy is a treat to watch.

Bojan Mihajlovic vs. Abdul-Kerim Edilov

Round 1 – Leg kick and body kick from Edilov. Big overhand right and a knee from Edilov. He’s bringing the pressure. He gets the Thai clinch and lands two hard knees. Edilov gets a takedown. Mihajlovic is working a closed guard. Edilov with some heavy punches from the top. He’s working the body too to change things up. Mihajlovic is bloodied up and gives up his back. Edilov all over him. He can’t get the finish before the horn though. 10-8 Edilov.

Round 2 – Mihajlovic with two rights. Edilov with a knee. Another one and he scores a nice takedown against the cage. Ediloc pounds away on top, just like the first round. Constant pressure. He’s able to ramp it up with a long stream of punches and gets the stoppage.

Thibault Gouti vs. Andrew Holbrook

Round 1 – Inside leg kick from Gouti. Holbrook can’t get a takedown. He perseveres and scoops a single, but Gouti escapes danger. Holbrook lands inside but gets countered. Two left hooks from Holbrook. Body kick too. Gouti with a nice right hook. Another. Now he landed an elbow inside. Holbrook kicked Gouti in the cup but they kept going. Gouti head kick drops Holbrook! He tied Gouti up with a kimura attempt to buy time. Gouti pulls out and opens up with punches. Nasty uppercuts inside and the ref is forced to step in when Holbrook goes down again.

Rustam Khabilov vs. Desmond Green

Round 1 – Khabilov lands a right. Green fires back. Khabilov quickly ties him and lands a suplex, but Green scrambles away as soon as he lands. They tie up and Khabilov slams him to the mat. He pops up right away but Khabilov is throwing him around. Green finally gets some space. Body kick from Green but it got caught. Green gets in on the hips for a takedown but Khabilov sluffs him off. 10-9 Khabilov.

Round 2 – Khabilov threatens with a takedown but Green lands a quick elbow. They trade leg kicks. Khabilov with a right. Straight left from Green during a takedown attempt from his opponent. Body kick from Khabilov. Green scores with a right. Closer round. They both miss with punches. Khabilov gets a single but Green fights him off. They trade rights. 10-9 Khabilov.

Round 3 – Khabilov looks for an early knee. Green misses with a right. He’s not putting forth a lot of output on offense. Khabilov with a right, then a counter right. Green took his back briefly but couldn’t do anything with it. Khabilov with a pawing left. Nice right from Khabilov. He’s clearly the aggressor here. They both miss with winging shots. Green gets a takedown and back control, but it’s too late. 10-9 and 30-27 Khabilov.

Francimar Barroso vs. Aleksandar Rakic

Round 1 – Measured start. Nice jab from Barroso. Rakic misses with a winging right. He landed in the next time. Barroso with an uppercut when he tried it for a third time. Barroso with a right. Rakic cracks him again, then landed a hard leg kick. Beautiful uppercut from Rakic. Body kick too. They tie up against the fence. 10-9 Rakic.

Round 2 – Rakic with a quick right. Another huge one this time. Outside leg kick. They trade low kicks. Rakic measuring distance well and cracks Barroso with two more shots. Nice straight right to the body. Barroso with an outside leg kick. Nice body kick from Rakic. Barroso got a takedown against the cage with 1:45 to go. He just wrapped him up and tried to keep him there, but Rakic got away and started landing hard on his feet. Another takedown from Barroso. 10-9 Rakic.

Round 3 – Rakic coming forward again. Barroso has a takedown attempt swatted away. Body kick from Rakic, and again. Nice right. Slower pace in this round. Rakic with a nice body shot. Barroso complained of an eye poke but referee Marc Goddard said it was from a punch and Rakic attacks. Barroso shakes it off and defends. Then kicks Rakic in the cup, lol. Barroso looked for a takedown on the restart but Rakic defends and lands two rights. Another takedown attempt stuffed. 10-9 and 30-27 Rakic.

Mike Santiago vs. Zabit Magomedsharipov

Round 1 – Magomedsharipov led with a hook kick, then a spinning back kick. Wow. Santiago pressures him and they trade kicks. Magomedsharipov looks for a takedown but Santiago uses a whizzer to not give up the advantage. Magomedsharipov with a ton of crazy kicks, including a Showtime kick. Crazy stuff. He gets Santiago over to the cage and lands some big elbows and punches. Santiago ties him up. Body kick from Santiago when they finally separate. Magomedsharipov with more flashy offense. 10-9 Magomedsharipov.

Round 2 – Step-in elbow from Magomedsharipov, and a backwards heel kick. That was amazing. He tied Santiago up and took him down with an arm and leg trapped. This guy is ridiculous. Magomedsharipov looks for a choke. He cant get it so he opened up with punches. Santiago looked for a kimura from the bottom, but not for long. He takes the back and continues to look for the choke. After a few more punches, he’s finally able to secure it. Night night. This guy is a treat to watch.

Bojan Mihajlovic vs. Abdul-Kerim Edilov

Round 1 – Leg kick and body kick from Edilov. Big overhand right and a knee from Edilov. He’s bringing the pressure. He gets the Thai clinch and lands two hard knees. Edilov gets a takedown. Mihajlovic is working a closed guard. Edilov with some heavy punches from the top. He’s working the body too to change things up. Mihajlovic is bloodied up and gives up his back. Edilov all over him. He can’t get the finish before the horn though. 10-8 Edilov.

Round 2 – Mihajlovic with two rights. Edilov with a knee. Another one and he scores a nice takedown against the cage. Ediloc pounds away on top, just like the first round. Constant pressure. He’s able to ramp it up with a long stream of punches and gets the stoppage.

Abdul-Kerim Edilov defeated Bojan Mihajlovic via TKO (strikes), 2:32 of round 2

Thibault Gouti vs. Andrew Holbrook

Round 1 – Inside leg kick from Gouti. Holbrook can’t get a takedown. He perseveres and scoops a single, but Gouti escapes danger. Holbrook lands inside but gets countered. Two left hooks from Holbrook. Body kick too. Gouti with a nice right hook. Another. Now he landed an elbow inside. Holbrook kicked Gouti in the cup but they kept going. Gouti head kick drops Holbrook! He tied Gouti up with a kimura attempt to buy time. Gouti pulls out and opens up with punches. Nasty uppercuts inside and the ref is forced to step in when Holbrook goes down again.
