After a 16-month absence from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon, Flyweight top contender Ian McCall will make his return to the cage at UFC 201 on July 30 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
McCall (13-5-1 NC), better known by his unparalleled moniker “Uncle Creepy,” will attempt to fend off a red hot 24-year-old Justin Scoggins (11-2), who has displayed an evolved level of striking in recent decision wins over Ray Borg and Josh Sampo.
The news was announced by McCall via Instagram:
This is fantastic news for the 125-pound division. Current champion Demetrious Johnson has been absolutely butchering the competition and is currently scheduled to defend his title for the ninth-straight time at UFC 201 opposite Wilson Reis, who seemingly earned a title shot after disposing of Dustin Ortiz back at UFC on FOX 18.
McCall has been sidelined due to an array of injures, but is apparently healthy enough to resume his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. And considering he already has history with Johnson, fighting the champ to a draw at UFC on FX 2 and then narrowly losing to him via decision at UFC on FX 3, a decisive win over someone like Scoggins could certainly land him inches away from a championship fight.
UFC 201 will be headlined by a Welterweight title fight between champion Robbie Lawler and No. 1 contender Tyron Woodley.
