Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight title contender Ian McCall likes Conor McGregor, he just thinks the majority of fans that follow the Irishman’s every move are complete idiots. It may not be the most analytical assessment on the behalf of “Uncle Creepy,” but it’s one he stands by.
“I’m excited to go back,” said McCall regarding his upcoming return to Ireland during a recent appearance on BJPenn.com’s radio show. “Those are the best fans on the planet by far, the Irish fans. As annoying as people can get with the whole Conor McGregor thing and of course you have to be appreciative of these fans cause they’re still watching the spot. But, you know, they’re fringe fans. They’re idiots, most of them.”
While McCall does appreciate the way “Notorious” fights and his ability to deliver a unique psyche, he doesn’t believe all of McGregor’s fans know exactly what they’re talking about.
“I’m one of them,” added McCall. “I like Conor. I like how he fights. I like how psycho he is. But, you get a lot of these idiots that are just nameless, faceless f*cking morons on the Internet that just talk.”
“With the Conor fans, the Conor fans really dug in and were talking a lot of shit and I was like laughing. One, you can’t really offend me online, not in front of me or whatever. It’s really silly”
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is known for its keyboard warriors, so it’s not that surprising that McGregor would have some of those same Internet tough guys join his massive takeover. Unfortunately for McCall, his remarks may brand him a marked man when he challenges Neil Seery at UFC Fight Night 99 on Nov. 19 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
