The UFC announced Tuesday the hiring of Eric Winter, a former Yahoo executive and head of Rivals.com, to the position of Senior Vice President and General Manager of UFC Fight Pass.
Winter is expected to “manage the continued global expansion” of the UFC’s online streaming service, according to a release issued by the promotion.
“Eric’s unmatched experience in developing emerging programming platforms and leveraging key partnerships will be vital to the development of UFC Fight Pass,” UFC executive Marshall Zelaznik said in the statement.
“With the continued expansion of exclusive content and the leading digital fight library in the world, UFC is excited about the future of UFC Fight Pass for our passionate fans.”
Winter previously worked in executive roles at DirecTV, Yahoo, and Rivals.com before joining the UFC.
Winter is most well known for his time overseeing Rivals.com, the popular college sports and recruiting website purchased by Yahoo in 2007. Under Winter’s guiding hand, Rivals.com developed into one of the industry leaders for news and analysis on high school and collegiate athletics.
“UFC is not only the leader in the sport of mixed martial arts, but it is a leader in the area of programming and content distribution,” Winter said in a statement. “I am thrilled to join UFC and build key partnerships that will ensure UFC Fight Pass is the premier destination for fight fans around the world.”
