UFC Houston: Adam Milstead says he never told corner his round 1 knee injury vs. Curtis Blaydes

UFC heavyweight Adam Milstead suffered a devastating knee injury in his loss to Curtis Blaydes in Houston, Texas.

Heavyweight prospect Adam Milstead was tossed around the cage throughout the opening round of his UFC Houston preliminary card bout vs. Curtis Blaydes. On one of the seven takedowns Blaydes completed in the first five minutes, Milstead was noticeably in pain as his right knee buckled. Milstead survived the round but was thoroughly dominated.

Coming out for round 2 proved to be disastrous for “The Prototype,” and his knee was wrecked on another Blaydes takedown. Milstead clutched his knee in pain as the fight was called to a halt. FS1 analyst Brian Stann had pointed out Milstead’s initial injury in round 1, and questioned Milstead’s corner for letting him even continue. After the fight, Milstead said that he didn’t tell his corner about the injury.

Ouch. My knee hurts. Hats off to @RazorBlaydes265 for a dominate victory. Enjoy it bud.

To clear the air. I never told my corners my knee was jacked they would of stopped it had I done so. I will go out on my shield by my choice

Milstead (8-2) has had a history of knee problems, including a torn ACL which ended his college football career, as well as a torn meniscus and partially dislocated knee in his 5th pro fight.

Mark Cherico, Milstead’s coach, later told FloCombat’s Hunter Alek Homistek that Adam had told him he was fine. Full video of Cherico’s interview with FloCombat can be found here.
