UFC lightweight fighter Charles Oliveira (14-1) lost for the first time in his career this past weekend when he met veteran Jim Miller on the main card of UFC 124 in Montreal.

The Brazilian would end up losing in the second minute of the first round succumbing to a kneebar submission from Miller. It happened so fast for Oliveira, noting that “I blinked and he got me, a silly mistake.”

Oliveira recently spoke to Tatame.com about the loss and it isn’t something that sits well with him.

“In all my fights I felt comfortable, moved forwards, independently of how many fights I had done. The only thing that changes is what Wanderlei, Shogun, Veio, Macaco, Thiago Pitbull, experienced guys, told me: ‘everybody was defeated once, and when you only win you lose your motivation’. Now I know how it is to lose. When I won, I was happy, but today I’ve tasted the defeat and I no longer want it. I have to get more focused and become a better athlete. I don’t want to get used to the losses, and I know how long it lasts.”

With the loss Oliveira is now 1-2 with the UFC having defeated Efrain Escudero and Darren Elkins since his August debut. In both wins, Oliveira would earn the “Submission of the Night” bonus.
