UFC President announced the addition of a lightweight bout between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (14-3, 1NC) and Mac Danzig (20-8-1).
White made the announcement on UFC.com noting “Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and TUF 6 winner Mac Danzig have verbally agreed to meet in what should by a non-stop action fight at UFC 131 in Vancouver.”
UFC 131 will take place on June 11 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia and will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between “TUF 13″ coaches Brock Lesnar vs. Junior dos Santos.
Cerrone, who moved over from the WEC, debuted with the UFC at UFC 126 last month, earning a second round submission win against Paul Kelly. The bout was exciting enough to earn the “Fight of the Night” bonus from White. That is three wins in a row for the “Cowboy” who erases a WEC lightweight title loss to then champion, Ben Henderson at WEC 48. Cerrone is 6-2 in his last five fights which includes two title losses to Henderson.
Danzig won the “Knockout of the Night” bonus after his spectacular KO of Joe Stevenson last December in Montreal on the UFC 124 fight card. That win put him at 2-1 in his last three, but is just 2-4 in his last six UFC bouts. Before the win over Stevenson he was choked out by Matt Wiman at UFC 115 at the same Rogers Arena in Vancouver, and earned a unanimous decision over Justin Buchholz at UFC 109. His overall record with the UFC since winning “The Ultimate Fighter” season 6 is 6-4.
Two thrilling lightweight bouts have been added to the summer lineup featuring TUF stars pitted against WEC favorites who’ve had success so far in the UFC.
“Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and TUF 6 winner Mac Danzig have verbally agreed to meet in what should by a non-stop action fight at UFC 131 in Vancouver,” said UFC president Dana White.
Two wrestlers with knockout power collide in Las Vegas as Shane Roller and Melvin Guillard have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 132. “Both of these guys are coming off of Knockout of the Night winning performances,” added White.
