Canadian featherweight Kyle Nelson gave fight fans their first true knockout finish earlier tonight (Sat., Sept. 21, 2019) at UFC Fight Night 159 live on ESPN+ from inside Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City, when he stopped Mexican-born fighter Marco Polo Reyes via first-round knockout (elbow and punches).
The finish occurred along the cage early into the first round as Nelson landed a sharp elbow off the clinch break. Polo Reyes was temporarily stunned and Nelson stuck him with a looping right hand that further froze the Mexican fighter in his tracks. Nelson followed up with big combinations as the referee moved in for the knockout stoppage on the feet.

With this performance, Nelson gets his first Octagon victory after dropping his first two outings to Diego Ferreira and Matt Sayles. The talented Canadian fighter believed he was going to be too powerful for Polo Reyes tonight and he proved exactly that. Nelson didn’t face an opponent who was going to test his overall game, but this was still the defining performance he needed to stay on the UFC roster entering next year.
