Gerald Meerschaert produced another memorable finish earlier today (Sat., Aug. 3, 2019) at UFC on ESPN 5 inside Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, when he put a late stop to rising middleweight prospect Trevin Giles via third-round submission (guillotine choke).
In what was a relatively uneventful fight, Meerschaert finally took advantage of Giles’ willingness to grapple in the third round by snatching up a tight guillotine choke. Giles defended it nicely for a bit, but once Meerschaert re-positioned his hands and made the squeeze tighter, Giles had nothing left to do but tap. Unfortunately, referee Herb Dean was late to the party and Meerschaert ended up putting Giles to sleep.

With this performance, Meerschaert gets back into the win column after dropping back-to-back fights at middleweight to Jack Hermansson and Kevin Holland. The 31-year-old veteran looked much better physically after revamping his strength and conditioning regiment and took out one of the tougher prospects in the division. Meerschaert has always been talented, evident by his 27 finishes through 29 career victories, so it will be interesting to see where he lands after this one.
