Rising lightweight prospect Joe Solecki shined in his main card bid earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 22, 2020) at UFC on ESPN 15 live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the “Dana White Contender Series” alum finished Austin Hubbard via first-round submission (standing rear-naked choke).
Hubbard looked to be the bigger lightweight as the bout started but Solecki quickly proved to be the more prepared fighter. After tagging Hubbard with a few flush strikes on the feet Solecki was able to move inside and score a brief takedown along the cage. As Hubbard got back to his feet Solecki took his back and started to work in a rear-naked choke. Solecki had to land a few punches from the back to loosen Hubbard’s grip but he eventually found a window for the finish.

With this performance, Solecki improves to 2-0 inside of the Octagon while notching his seventh career win by way of submission. The 26-year-old prospect looked better than ever tonight and didn’t even really break a sweat. It was quite cerebral.
