SAN JOSE, Calif. – Turns out the barista can actually fight.

Patrick Cummins made Kyle Kingsbury’s hometown fight one to forget on Saturday. The SoCal-based fighter, who is most remembered for his spectacle of a fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 170, made it look easy Saturday at UFC on FOX 12 at the SAP Center.

Cummins was rarely threatened in the light heavyweight fight, as the Reign MMA fighter won via unanimous decision, winning on scores of 30-27, 30-25, and 30-24.

With the victory, Cummins (6-1), who began the year working at an Orange County coffee shop, has now won two straight fights since his quick loss to Cormier.

The story of the fight was pretty simple: Cummins, who comes from a wrestling background at Penn State, took Kingsbury down at will. And kept him there. Cummins still has a ways to go with his striking, and as such, he wasn’t able to finish Kingsbury, but he managed to dish out more than his fair share of elbows from the top and knees in the clinch.

It was a tough homecoming for the well-liked Kingsbury, an American Kickboxing Academy fighter. The former TUF contestant had not fought since Sept. 2012 and at one point announced his retirement, but he never could get his offense untracked. Kingsbury (11-6-1) has dropped his past four bouts.
