UFC on FOX 21 results: ‘Condit vs Maia’ live updates – FOX ‘Prelims’
Before former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight title challenger Carlos Condit looks to rebound later tonight (Sat., Aug. 27, 2016) against crafty submission specialist Demian Maia, and former UFC Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis tries to impress in his Featherweight debut opposite Charles Oliveira, at UFC on FOX 21 live from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, a portion of the event’s “Prelims” undercard will take place on FOX starting at 6 p.m. ET.

Sam Alvey vs Kevin Casey
Dan Henderson protege Alvey (28-8) looked to continue his knockout ways when he locked horns with grappling expert Casey (9-5-1) in the preliminary headliner. In a matchup of differing styles, it was Casey who dictated the pace with patient striking and timely clinch work following a brief feeling out period. Alvey did a little damage with a Muay Thai plum, but he was unable to land any of his patented power shots until the final few seconds of Round 1. But in the second round, Alvey was able to land a devastating right hand that sent the BJJ black belt to the canvas. Alvey let Casey back to his feet and proceeded to walk him down, landing vicious punches and knees until the former TUF standout couldn’t take anymore. Alvey earned himself a second-round technical knockout finish and sparks yet another win streak in the 185-pound division.
Enrique Barzola vs Kyle Bochniak
Former TUF: Latin America season two winner Barzola (11-3-1) looked to earn his second-straight UFC victory when he took on inexperienced Bochniak (7-1) in a battle of Featherweight prospects. Despite being known for his ground game, Peru’s Barzola wasted little time in showcasing his new-and-improved striking arsenal after training at American Top Team, utilizing quick footwork and solid counter shots to throw Bochniak for a loop. The Boston native began to find his groove towards the end of the first, but Barzola was simply the more active fighter. It was much of the same in Round 2 as Barzola worked around Bochniak’s pesky leg kicks to land a massive uppercut and countless combinations on the move. He even secured a takedown to end the second frame. After a back-and-forth third round, the action when to the judges’ scorecards. To much surprise, Bochniak was given the split-decision nod to capture his first UFC win, even though one judge scored all three rounds for Barzola.
Garreth McLellan vs Alessio Di Chirico
In one of the more underrated undercard bouts of the evening, former South African Middleweight champion McLellan (13-5) looked to right the UFC ship against Italian youngster Di Chirico (10-1). While McLellan busted Di Chirico up early with straight punches and solid leg kicks, the 26-year-old offered some good combinations inside. Despite his first-round success and an early second-round takedown, McLellan began to fade after Di Chirico landed vicious elbows that bloodied his face. Di Chirico continued to push the pace and land heavy shots on the chin of McLellan. After missing out on a near guillotine choke to begin Round 3, McLellan continued to pressure the Italian on the ground. But it was too little too late for the tired South African, who ate countless strikes to end the bout. Di Chirico certainly impressed in his second Octagon appearance and rightfully earned the split-decision win.
The undefeated Silva (8-0) attempted to maintain his winning ways in his Octagon debut when he took on 28-year-old Canadian Shane Campbell (12-6). Despite fighting on enemy soil, the Brazilian absolutely battered Campbell in the early going. Silva landed a nasty left hook to the body and another left to the head that dropped Campbell to the canvas. It was only a matter of a few punches before Silva was ripped off of Campbell and awarded the first-round technical knockout finish. Silva has now finished seven of his eight professional bouts by way of first-round knockout or submission, and looks like a primed candidate to quickly climb the Lightweight ladder. This loss was Campbell’s third in a row.
