UFC on FOX 23’s Jorge Masvidal on not pulling the trigger: ‘I like to play with my food’

Has Jorge Masvidal been holding out on us?

According to his post-fight comments following his second-round destruction of Donald Cerrone at last night’s (Sat., Jan. 28, 2017) UFC on FOX 23 event in Denver (see it again here), Colorado, it seems he may have.

Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White reiterated during the post-fight presser that “Gamebred” has all the tools to become a champion of he just pulls the trigger like he did inside The Pepsi Center.

Masvidal, though, says he only pulls the trigger when he see a need to, otherwise, he’ll just play with his food for pure enjoyment.

“I’m a fighter, and sometimes I like to play with my food,” said Jorge during the post-fight presser.

“Sometimes I like to beat guys up, sometimes I like to torture them. Sometimes I don’t pull the trigger, sometimes I drop dudes in there and I smile at them after I drop them. I do what I want in there,” he added. “Nobody tells me what to do or what not to do. I felt like knocking him out and it wasn’t going to decision, that’s why I pulled the trigger every chance I got. It was not going to go to a decision. Sometimes in the past I have been on cruise control and kicking a guys ass so much that I didn’t need to pull the trigger since I was out-skilling him everywhere. SO I can pull the trigger when i needs to be pulled.”

As far as his win over “Cowboy,” goes, Masvidal knows the fight ended in the closing seconds of round one, as it was obvious Herb Dean was calling an end to the bout prior the the round coming to a close.

That said, it didn’t tale long for “Gambred” to know the end was going to come sooner, rather than later.

“What was weird to me was when Herb pulled me, it was only a second and most think ‘It’s only a second,’ but that second he pulls me off and then the bell rings, which you can see on the replay,” said Masvidal.

“So that second lands me another two punches, you know? Hats off to ‘Cowboy’ for even getting up because I looked right into his soul when get got up and he wasn’t there. When he came out he wasn’t there. So he’s a warrior.”

His win over Cerrone was his third straight.
