A featherweight bout appears to be in the works for this Augusts upcoming UFC on FOX 4 event between veteran Michihiro Omigawa (13-11-1) and Manny ‘The Pitbull’ Gamburyan (11-7).
Reporter Ariel Helwani confirmed the bout for MMAFighting.com on Saturday night.
UFC on FOX: Stann vs. Lombard (aka UFC on FOX 4) is expected to take place on August 4, 2012 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The event is headlined by the debut of former Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard who takes on Briann Stann on the FOX broadcasted main card. Expect the Omigawa vs. Gamburyan match to appear on a Facebook prelim stream.
Both fighters are in a must win situation with Omigawa going 1-3 in his last four and Gamburyan going 0-3 in his last three.
Omigawa lost his last bout to Yuri Alcantara by decision last January at UFC 142 in Brazil, putting the Japanese fighter at 1-1 in his last two. The win came in November and was a unanimous decision victory verus Jason Young at UFC 138 in England.
Gamburyan has yet to pick up a win since returning to the UFC after the merger with the WEC over a year ago. ‘The Pitbull’ had his last fight in December at UFC 141 where he was beaten by Diego Nunes by decision. The other two losses came at the hands of Tyson Griffin at UFC on Versus 4 by majority decision, and to Jose Aldo at WEC 51 by knockout.
