The Ultimate Fighting Championship added a second heavyweight bout to the upcoming UFC on FOX 4 card matching British fighters Philip De Fries (8-1, 1NC) and Oli Thompson (9-3) against one another at the California event.
The official announcement was posted on UFC.com on Wednesday.
Two heavyweight bouts have been verbally agreed to for August 4 at the Staples Center. Englishmen Oli Thompson and Phil De Fries will clash in Los Angeles, while their countryman Rob “The Bear” Broughton will fight TUF standout Matt Mitrione.
UFC on Fox: Stann vs. Lombard (aka UFC on FOX 4) is expected to take place on August 4, 2012 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The event is headlined by the UFC debut of former Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard, who takes on Brian Stann in the main event.
De Fries and Thompson had been scheduled to meet previously at UFC 138, but an injury to Thompson forced him off the card and he was replaced by Rob Broughton.
De Fries is 1-1 in the UFC, losing for the first time in his career in his last Octagon outing. The submission ace, seven of his eight victories have come by submission, was knocked out in just 43-seconds of the first round last February when he faced Stipe Miocic at the UFC on FUEL TV 1 show. De Fries won his debut by winning a decision over Rob Broughton at UFC 138.
Thompson debuted with the UFC last March in Australia, losing by second round TKO to Shawn Jordan at the UFC on FX 2 show. The defeat ended a five fight win streak which saw Thompson win and defend the UCMMA’s heavyweight title. Thompson owns three wins by (T)KO, five by submission and one by submission in his pro-career.
