The Ultimate Fighting Championships next visit to Seattle has another two bouts set for the UFC on FOX 8 event.
Former Strikeforce fighters square off in former welterweight champ Tarec ‘Sponge’ Saffiedine (14-3) and ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler (20-9, 1NC), while lightweights Danny ‘Last Call’ Castillo (15-5) and Bobby ‘King’ Green (20-5) are also set to scrap.
The promotion announced the news Thursday afternoon on Twitter (@UFC).
– 3 new July fights! Del Rosario/Dave Herman at UFC 162; Saffiedine/Lawler and Danny Castillo/Bobby Green at @UFCONFOX Seattle
UFC on Fox 8 is expected to take place on July 27, 2013 at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington. The event does not have a main event as of yet.
Both bouts should appear on the main card but the Castillo vs. Green could very well headline the TV broadcasted prelim card.
This bout will mark the UFC debut for Saffiedine who won the Strikeforce welterweight title in his last fight. ‘Sponge’ won his fourth straight match by defeating Nate Marquardt by decision last January at the promotions final show.
Lawler returned to welterweight, and the UFC, in his last match by stopping former 170-lbs contender Josh Koscheck by first round TKO last February at UFC 157. Prior to that, ‘Ruthless’ had gone just 1-3 in the Strikeforce cage including a loss to Ronaldo Souza for the middleweight title.
Castillo is 4-1 in his last fight but 1-1 in his last two matches. ‘Last Call’ won a decision last February in England by defeating local Paul Sass putting Castillo back on the winning track after a knockout loss to Michael Johnson at UFC on FX 5.
Green debuted with the UFC last February, winning a “Submission of the Night” bonus for his third round win over Jacob Volkmann at UFC 156. The victory was the former KOTC champs fifth straight win with four victories under the Strikeforce banner.
