After suffering the first loss of his pro career, Edson Barboza was out to prove that it was just a single hiccup. Mission accomplished. Barboza rebounded from that defeat to end the undefeated start of another young prospect, defeating Lucas Martins at UFC on FX 7.

Martins submitted to strikes after a barrage against the fence at 2:38 of the first round.

In a battle of Muay Thai stylists, it was Barboza and his long jab that always seemed to land first, and it was that exact strike that led to Martins’ undoing.

As Martins waded in looking to turn up the heat, Barboza snapped out a hard jab that put Martins on his back side. Barboza then swarmed with a hail of strikes. The hurt Martins tried to cover up, but it was quickly apparent he was done, but ref Mario Yamasaki was hesitant to step in and stop it. Instead, Martins tapped to surrender.

The short fight saw Barboza out-land him 29-12, according to FightMetric.

Barboza was fighting for the first time since last May, when he lost to Jamie Varner in a first-round knockout.

He is now 11-1 while the 24-year-old Martins fell to 12-1.
