The traditional “Fight Night” bonuses were handed out by UFC President Dana White after Thursday’s UFC on Versus 3 (aka UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann) event from the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Winners included Diego Sanchez, Martin Kampmann, Shane Roller and Brian Bowles.
There was one difference though, from the usual proceedings, White awarded both Sanchez and Kampmann $60,000 for the “Fight of the Night” night bonus, a full $20,000 over the other two award purses. Earning $40,000 were Shane Roller, for the “Knockout of the Night” bonus, and Brian Bowles, who earned the “Submission of the Night” bonus.
Sanchez and Kampmann battled it out in the evenings main event that saw both fighters battered and bloodied by the end. Sanchez would earn the unanimous decision earning a 29-28 score from all three judges. At the end of the fight Kampmann noted that he may have broken his right hand in the fight.
Roller faced Thiago Tavares on the unaired portion of the preliminary card and was down the first round, outlasting Tavares attack. In the second, Roller managed to land a solid right hand that put Tavares out cold, earning the first knockout win of his career.
Bowles faced Damacio Page in a rematch from two and a half years ago, and it would end the same way this time as it did the first time. Bowles would end the fight with a first round guillotine choke at 3:30, the exact same time of the first round he finished Page in their first meeting at WEC 35.
