The Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Canada was home to a solid night of fights. The card saw two (T)KOs, one submission, and nine decisions, including one split-decision.
Performances of the Night: Walt Harris, Macy Chiasson
Walt Harris didn’t even require a full minute to send opponent Sergey Spivak to the losers’ circle, taking just 50 seconds to finish the Moldovan. Harris came out throwing everything but the kitchen sink, and several of those cast iron punches found their mark, stunning Spivak and eventually dropping him. Harris followed him down, swarming young Sergey with vicious ground-and-pound until the referee intervened. Walt Harris gets the win and a $50,000 bonus.
Macy Chiasson needed some time to get opponent Sarah Moras figured out, losing the first round by my scoring. Moras was able to get Chiasson down and land some nasty ground-and-pound on the TUF winner, but by the end of the round, Macy was making headway, landing a barrage of punches and elbows on “Cheesecake.” By mid-round two, we saw Chiasson in control from full mount, raining down punches to Moras’ face. After several moments of this, the ref mercifully stepped in to wave off the contest. Macy Chiasson gets the win and a $50,000 bonus.
Fight of the Night: Donald Cerrone vs. Al Iaquinta
Donald Cerrone and Al Iaquinta put on a very entertaining scrap for fans in attendance and around the world. Iaquinta was largely dominated by Cerrone, taking just the second round by my scoring. Cerrone looked sharp, chopping at Iaquinta’s legs and landing hard shots with a surgeon’s precision. He dropped Iaquinta both with kicks and punches, tearing up “Raging Al’s” face in the process. Iaquinta did manage to land some big bombs, but they just weren’t plentiful enough to slow “Cowboy’s” momentum. It was a masterful performance by Donald, one that will hopefully see him with either a title shot or a crack at “The Notorious” Conor McGregor. Donald Cerrone gets the win, but both men walk away with a $50,000 bonus for their outstanding fight.
