The UFC Ottawa main card is in-progress, and the company’s #9 ranked middleweight Derek Brunson just won a decision over the #13 ranked Elias Theodorou. The bout was rather underwhelming with very few ‘wow’ moments. The bout started strong, but fizzled out as it went along. The win snapped a two-fight losing skid for Brunson, and broke up a three-fight winning wave fro Theodorou.

Before that, Cub Swanson vs. Shane Burgos put on a rather entertaining bout. It was pretty much a high-level kickboxing bout, with a minor stretch of Swanson taking the fight into the grappling realm late in the fight. The athletes went back and forth, going technique for technique, making for wild yet appropriate scorecards. When the dust settled, Burgos took the split decision, pulling a 30-27 and a 29-28 from two of the judges, with the third seeing the fight 30-27 for Swanson.

Also on the main card, Merab Dvalishvili ran away with the scorecards against Brad Katona, earning himself a unanimous decision. Dvalishvili found a lot of success on the ground. He was able to plant Katona on his back in each round, where he racked up a bunch of ground strikes as well as control time. Dvalishvili has now won back-to-back UFC fights, dishing out the first career-loss to Katona.

Walt Harris was on a mission tonight, stopping Sergey Spivak with strikes in a blazing 50-seconds. He came out throwing his hands in combinations and Spivak was not ready. The blitz from Harris completely overwhelmed his Spivak, and punch after punch hit its mark. There was a set of knees to the noggin that found a home in midst the barrage, before a couple more punches sat down Spivak. A plethora of ferocious ground strikes landed before the referee waved off the bout.

Opening up the main card, Andrew Sanchez picked up a grinding decision over Marc-Andre Barriault, dropping the middle round in the process. The opening round saw Sanchez sniff out a couple of takedowns where he controlled his foe for a bit. He was able to land a couple of strikes here and there, but didn’t do a ton of damage with the dominant positions. The second round saw Barriault come alive, throwing his punches in bunches, and landing a lot of them. Come round three, Sanchez went back to the takedown, controlling his opponent for most of the round. Sanchez is now on a two-fight winning streak.
