Borg had withdrawn from his bout vs. Nathan Maness last week for reasons unknown.

After yet another last-minute cancellation, Ray Borg’s days in the UFC are over.

MMA Fighting confirmed that the former flyweight title challenger has been released from his contract after he withdrew from his scheduled bout vs. Nathan Maness. It remains unclear as to why he pulled out from the matchup.

Borg (13-5) has had a career negatively affected by injuries, poor weight cuts, and the health of his young son Anthony, who was diagnosed with a rare brain condition known as hydrocephalus. In June, Borg pulled out of a bout vs. Merab Dvalishvili because of his son’s health, but thankfully he did not require another surgery.

Since he made his UFC debut in 2014, Borg has withdrawn from nine fights for various reasons, including the unfortunate dolly throwing incident caused by Conor McGregor at UFC 223. He’s also missed weight four times across flyweight and bantamweight. At his best, Borg challenged Demetrious Johnson for the 125 lbs belt, beating the likes of Louis Smolka and Jussier Formiga.

Borg’s last bout saw him lose a split decision to Ricky Simon, ending a two-fight winning streak and dropping his UFC record to 7-5. Unfortunately, much like Eric Spicely, withdrawing so close to fight night has prompted the UFC to send him out of the organization.
