UFC removes Travis Browne from Fight Week following domestic abuse allegation

The UFC was quick in its response to domestic violence allegations against heavyweight Travis Browne.

Browne’s ex-girlfriend, fitness model Jenna Renee Webb, posted pictures on Instagram late Thursday night of bruises on her face, arms, and legs, which she alleges was the result of domestic abuse by Browne.

At Thursday’s UFC 189 press conference in Las Vegas, UFC spokesman Dave Sholler read a statement on Browne’s situation, saying the fighter has been pulled from this week’s International Fight Week activities while an investigation remains ongoing.

“UFC is aware of the social media allegations made against Travis Browne,” Sholler stated. “The organization requires all athletes to act in an ethical and responsible manner, as mandated by the UFC fighter code of conduct policy. The UFC will not tolerate domestic violence or any other violation of the policy.

“However, every athlete is deserving of due process, and this situation, as with any official allegations, will be thoroughly reviewed and thoroughly investigated by an independent party.

As a result, Travis Browne will not be participating this week in International Fight Week activities.”

Webb’s caption on the Instagram post strongly implied her relationship with Browne is over.

“Probably one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made was walking away from this life and starting over. I’m still ashamed for staying as long as I did. #domesticviolenceawareness.”

Asked by a fan if the post was directed toward Browne, Webb said “Yes, it was Travis.”

Browne last fought at UFC 187, where he lost a first-round knockout to Andrei Arlovski. He did not have another fight lined up. Browne’s management declined comment when contacted by MMAFighting.com.
