The TD Garden in Boston is the home of 23 championships, between the Celtics’ record 17 NBA title banners and the Bruins’ six Stanley Cups.

On Aug. 17, though, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will call the building home.

UFC president Dana White, who lived for several years in South Boston, announced the event Friday via Twitter. “We are FINALLY going back to the TD Garden on Aug. 17 for the launch of FOX Sports 1!! We are bringing a SICK card,” White tweeted, caps and exclamation points his.

FOX Sports 1, the Fox corporation’s attempt to run an all-sports network to rival ESPN, launches on Aug. 17. It is expected to be carried in 90 million homes at launch.

No fights were announced for the event, which will be the company’s first in Massachusetts since UFC 118 in Aug. 2010. That event featured Frankie Edgar’s successful UFC lightweight title defense against B.J. Penn in a rematch.
